We've all daydreamed about our personal, ideal Resident Evil game. Sometimes, I imagine an open-world, quasi survival sim, something like Project Zomboid but set in Raccoon City. I can also picture an extended version of the RPD scenario from Outbreak File 2, basically an entire game where you play as the police officers trying to defend the station during the first days of the infection. But a Resident Evil RTS has never crossed my mind. With RE Requiem officially on the way, it turns out another new Resident Evil game is also in the works. This is Survival Unit.
Okay. Before we go any further, you should know that - as it stands - Resident Evil Survival Unit is a mobile game for iOS and Android. Now, I always try to remind myself about Fallout Shelter, which began life on handheld platforms but proved so popular that it was ported to PC. If you're adverse to playing the new Resident Evil game on your phone or tablet, maybe, maybe, it could eventually jump to Steam. Nevertheless, with the Resident Evil Requiem release date on its way, one of the best horror games of all time is making the leap to a completely new genre.
Described by developers Aniplex and Joycity as "survival horror strategy," Survival Unit is an RTS game which, based on the solitary teaser image supplied so far, appears to be set in Raccoon City itself. Whether this means it's a prequel and takes place during the actual T-Virus outbreak, or that it's set alongside Requiem in the city's bombed-out ruins, remains unclear. What we do know is that more details on Survival Unit are coming very soon.
The first Resident Evil Survival Unit trailer will be revealed on Thursday July 10 at 3pm PDT / 6pm EDT / 11pm BST / 12pm CEST. You'll be able to see it right here.
Until then, you might want to try some of the other best survival games, or make Requiem look its very shiniest with the best gaming monitors available in 2025.
