Apple's new, smarter Siri could look like this

Apple's Siri is about to undergo a massive redesign, and Bloomberg has images showing us what that might look like.

The images, shared by Bloomberg on Thursday, aren't leaks; instead, they're unofficial renders and illustrations created by Bloomberg, based on information viewed by folks at the outlet and by people reportedly with knowledge of Apple's plans.

First, some context. As we've previously written, Apple is working on an AI-infused version of Siri that will be much smarter (think ChatGPT-style) than before and will come with a standalone app for the first time. None of this is official, but we've seen numerous reports that this is the case, and Apple itself is teasing big Siri-related changes for its upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which kicks off on June 8.

Now, thanks to Bloomberg's renders, we can get an idea of what this actually might look like. Siri will mostly live inside the iPhone's Dynamic Island, which will expand with a special animation if you invoke Siri with voice or with a long press of the iPhone's power button.

The other way to invoke Siri will be to pull down from the top center of the iPhone's display, which will show a new "Search or Ask" interface. From here, you'll be able to perform various tasks with Siri's help, including launching apps, starting text messages, and adding calendar appointments, but also search the web with AI's help, and ask various questions. You'll get the results as text cards that "pop up" from the Dynamic Island. Swipe down further, and you'll open a conversation with Siri, as you would with any AI chatbot.

And it won't be just Siri on offer here; Apple will reportedly let users choose a different chatbot, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT.

This will probably require getting used to, as the Notification Center will now be invoked by pulling down from the top left of the iPhone's screen.

Then there's the new Siri app, which will work similarly to chatbots such as Claude, Gemini, and ChatGPT, with a home screen that hosts a history of conversations and an interface that lets users type queries, use voice commands, and submit attachments. As previously reported, Siri will place greater emphasis on privacy than is typical for these apps, with an option to automatically delete previous chats.

None of this would be very useful if it were the old Siri, which can only handle very simple queries. The new, revamped Siri will reportedly be able to perform far more complex tasks, including writing emails and creating text notes on various topics. Siri will also be integrated into the iPhone's Camera app, replacing the Visual Intelligence features. We've previously written about other improvements that are reportedly coming to the iPhone's Camera app.

All of this should be announced in less than two weeks at this year's WWDC opening keynote. And most of it should become available in iOS 27, which will likely launch in September, alongside new iPhones.
