Why You Will Love This Herb Stuffing Meatloaf

If you love easy recipes, loaded with comfort this is one to try! We combined ground beef, Italian sausage and herb stuffing to give this meatloaf a great flavor. Then we topped it off with a brown gravy. We have never had a meatloaf with brown gravy and wanted to give it a try. Now.. there were a few mixed opinions.. and this is what happens when you have a family of people trying the recipes. So we do have a few options so be sure and read below.

Gravy Options You May Want

As I said above, after we made the meatloaf and took the photos, then we had a “moment” of… we should have added onion soup mix to the gravy!! So we are giving you the option to add it or not, but you will see in the photos that it’s not added. Taking photos of meatloaf is difficult and I was very happy with how these turned out, so I wasn’t going to remake it to add the mix to the gravy. We are not “just” food bloggers here; we eat what we make, and we didn’t need another meatloaf.

Now, if you are not a fan of brown gravy, you can always add the tomato-based gravy from our other meatloaf, and I do feel it would be good too! Here is the link to that recipe.

We Used Herb Stuffing

We liked the flavor of the herb stuffing from Stove Top in this recipe, but I think you could use any of the stove top stuffing flavors. The combination of the herb with the ground beef and Italian sausage was really good, plus it soaked up any grease, there was none in the pan! We don’t normally use a stuffing mix for our meatloaf but this was a fun change!

How Long Will This Keep? Can You Freeze It?

This will keep for a few days in the refrigerator and it reheats very well. You can also freeze this recipe. One lady commented on our other meatloaf after cooking she cuts it into slices and freezes the slices individually. She lives by herself so that works well for her. I loved that idea.

Prep Time 15 minutes

Cook Time 45 minutes

Course Main Course

Cuisine American

  • 6 ounce box Savory Herb Stove Top Stuffing
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 lb Italian Sausage we used mild, if you like it spicy get the hot version.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce

Gravy Ingredients

  • 2 tabelspoons all purpose flour
  • 2-3 cups beef broth 2 cups if you don't use the onion soup. 3 cups if you do.
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 2 ounce packet Lipton Onion Soup Mix (optional) see instructions below

Meatloaf Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375. Spray a 2 quart casserole dish with cooking spray.

  • Combine stuffing mix and 3/4 cup of beef broth and let sit for a bit to soak it up, around 5 minutes. Add in the worcestershire sauce and eggs and combine.

  • Add in ground beef and Italian sausage. I just use my hands. Once combined add to meat mixture to baking dish and make into a loaf.

  • Bake for 45 minutes in preheated oven. Internal temperature should be 160. You may have to adjust baking time so just check it.

Gravy Instructions – Makes about 1.5 cups if you want more double it

  • In a medium skillet or saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, once melted add 3 tablespoons of all purpose flour, stir it in, cook for about a minute or so, then add in the beef broth.

  • NOTE: IF YOU PLAN TO ADD THE ONION SOUP.. add in 3 cups of broth

  • Continue to stir so there are no lumps. Stir in the pepper and worcestershire sauce. Bring liquid to a simmer and let cook until it thickens some.

  • If adding the lipton soup mix this is the time to add it. Stir well and pour over the meatloaf.
