Striking open-world game Where Winds Meet is launching one final, giant playtest

If you're keen to get your hands on Where Winds Meet, you'll have a chance to do so incredibly soon. Developer Everstone Studio is having one final global beta test for the game ahead of launch, and it promises to be the biggest yet. Whether you love fast-paced combat or gorgeous historical worlds, this is definitely an RPG you need to keep an eye on.

Where Winds Meet is set during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period of Chinese history, and casts you as a young sword master searching for the truth of their own identity. Amid constantly shifting power struggles, huge historical battles, and political intrigue, you can explore what might be one of the best open-world games of the year.

For me, Where Winds Meet's major selling point is its combat. It's based on Wuxia - a genre of Chinese fiction about the ancient adventures of martial artists - and that means there are some seriously gorgeous and frenetic fights. You can choose between swords, spears, dual blades, and even fans or umbrellas. If you're a fan of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty or Black Myth Wukong's fantasy-imbued battles, this is definitely for you.

If you do manage to get into the upcoming global test, you'll also have the brand-new urban region of Kaifeng to explore. This bustling capital is filled with over one million square meters of stories to discover, and you'll be free to find them at your own pace. Everstone Studio says Kaifeng has more than 10,000 NPCs, any of whom can become a friend, brawl opponent, or an unsuspecting pickpocket target. There'll also be wild and more rural areas, too, if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Everstone Studio confirms the final Where Winds Meet beta test will run from Thursday July 24 to Thursday July 31. Successful applicants will be notified via email. You can sign up right here. Don't forget to keep up with the Where Winds Meet release date, either.
