It's fair to assume that meeting the best Persona 5 The Phantom X settings is a simple task, given that the game runs on PC and mobile. This will be the case for anyone with a powerful gaming PC, but those with older or budget setups may find it tricky to hit the 120fps frame cap without some adjustments.

Persona 5 The Phantom X is the latest in a long line of gacha games, the big appeal of this one being that it's the first to be exclusively set in the Persona universe. In our short time with the game, it plays very much like you would expect from a traditional Persona game, just with the addition of monetisation opportunities running throughout. You can check out the Persona 5 The Phantom X system requirements if you want to make sure your gaming PC is up to the task of running the game before taking a deep dive into settings.

  • Dynamic Resolution: Off
  • Frame Rate: 120
  • Render Quality: High
  • Shadow Quality: High
  • Effects Quality: Best
  • Texture Quality: High
  • Level Of Detail: High
  • Post-Processing Effects: High
  • Party Following: On
  • Lens Flare: On
  • Ambient Lighting: On
  • Reflections: On

  • Fog Effects: On
  • Volumetric Lighting: On
  • VSync: On
  • Render Scale: Best
  • Anti-Aliasing: Best
  • FSR: Off
  • HDR: On (if display supported)

With the above settings, which are curiously higher than the "best" graphics preset, which doesn't max out all the graphics options by default, we achieved an average frame rate of 120fps with 1% lows of 87fps, at 1440p.

Given that we're hitting the 120fps cap comfortably, concentrating on raising the 1% lows to be as high as possible was a more prudent use of our testing time. In this case, 87fps is perfectly fine, and the only time minor frame drops were detected was when transitions in gameplay took place, for example, when activating a cutscene.

Dropping the settings did very little to improve the 1% lows, with the figure never surpassing 92fps, which was achieved when using the low graphics preset. For this reason, we expect most gamers to achieve a playable frame rate of 60fps+ without the need to drop settings much lower than we've tested here.

Persona 5 The Phantom X runs remarkably smoothly on the Steam Deck, with the above settings netting a very consistent 60fps, with us noticing very few significant frame rate drops.

One aspect to keep an eye on with the Steam Deck, however, is the potential complications associated with the types of anti-cheat used in games like Persona 5 The Phantom X.

So far, there are no reports of Steam Deck users being banned or encountering anti-cheat issues, but it is an issue that has impacted games like Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves, and Zenless Zone Zero.

Persona 5 The Phantom X graphics presets

There are five total graphics presets in Persona 5 The Phantom X, and while they don't all use traditional titles, there's a clear progression from the lowest setting through to the best.

The anime art style used in Persona 5 The Phantom X makes it quite hard to detect any major changes when moving between each preset, although when comparing the lowest and highest, there are some clear differences.

Persona 5 image comparison. Left is an image of Persona 5 The Phantom X running at the Best graphics preset and on the right is an image of it running using the low graphics preset.

Distant objects are much clearer, lighting is much more natural, and character details are far crisper in the best settings preset, which is to be expected. It's also worth noting that there is a general blurriness in the menus that isn't attributed to the settings you choose. It appears to be an issue with the game that needs to be fixed.

How we tested Persona 5 The Phantom X

At PCGamesN, we use dedicated gaming rigs to test the best settings for performance and gameplay in the latest releases. The test rig used to play Persona 5 The Phantom X includes the following components: Intel Core i7-11700F, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 12GB, 32GB of DDR4 3,200MHz RAM in a dual-channel configuration, and an MSI B560 motherboard. We also test using Windows 11 64-bit.

We always run our tests first at 1,920 x 1,080 to identify the best settings for this entry-level resolution, then again at 2,560 x 1,440 using the same setup to gauge the difference in performance. We use CapFrameX to capture frame data and compare testing sessions.

For our Steam Deck tests, we use a Steam Deck OLED and take our frame data from the built-in performance monitoring in the quick access menu.

Does Persona 5 The Phantom X need an SSD?

Persona 5 The Phantom X does not require the best SSD, or any SSD at all, but without one, the in-game loading times could be slow, as they're sometimes quite drawn out even on our WD Blue SN580 SSD.

How to monitor performance in Persona 5 Phantom X

If you want to keep an eye on performance in Persona 5 The Phantom X, we have an easy method that works whether you're using an Nvidia or AMD graphics card.

For Nvidia cards, ensure you have the Nvidia App installed and the in-game overlay enabled, and then hit ALT + R in-game to bring up your performance monitor. With AMD cards, you can enable performance monitoring via the Radeon overlay using the shortcut CTRL + SHIFT + O.

Alternatively, you can download free software such as CapFrameX or Nvidia FrameView, to get a cleaner, more simplified benchmarking tool that works with any graphics card.

With handheld gaming PCs, most will have a dedicated button to access a quick menu from which performance monitoring, sometimes called real-time monitoring, can be accessed.
