You can try colossal space MMO Star Citizen for free, but you don't have long

If you've been waiting for the perfect chance to try out Star Citizen, this is it. The space MMO is free-to-play right now for a limited time, which should give you enough of a chance to familiarize yourself with its gigantic universe. From Wednesday July 2 to Monday July 14, Cloud Imperium Games is running the Star Citizen Foundation Festival. This annual event is focused on bringing new players into the game's fictional universe, as more experienced members of the community come together to help anyone playing for the first time.

As a part of this year's Foundation Festival, CIG is also running another Free Fly period. During this time, you get free access to the game alongside the chance to pilot eight distinct ships and vehicles. Typically, to play SC you need to purchase a starter pack to gain access, but Free Fly is designed to give you a taste at no cost. It's one of the best space games you can play today, and this limited-time event gives you the chance to try it.

Also launching alongside this year's festival is the revamped Star Citizen Referral Program. It comes with an all-new interface, better tracking tools, and a refreshed rewards ladder. If you already know someone who's been playing the game, and they send you a referral code, you can get 50,000 aUEC (Star Citizen's in game currency) to help jumpstart your journey.
