After an immensely successful demo, free-to-play multiplayer shooter Mecha Break is finally here. Pitting players against one another in gigantic robots that move faster than science should allow, it's a high-octane experience brimming with customization options and ways to play. The launch is already going incredibly well on Steam, too, as players flock back after months of waiting. Despite this success, however, the community has major criticisms of the game's overabundance of pricey microtransactions.

Mecha Break was poised for success from the very beginning. When developer Amazing Seasun Games launched a free demo earlier this year, it rocketed up the Steam charts, surpassing mainstays like Marvel Rivals, GTA 5, and Apex Legends. More than 300,000 people were playing Mecha Break simultaneously.

Now, Amazing Seasun Games has launched the full version of Mecha Break, and it's already amassed just shy of 100,000 concurrent players. Perhaps the free-to-play mech shooter could find a spot on our best multiplayer games list. However, the Steam reviews are split.

The Mecha Break user score currently sits at a 'mixed' 64% from nearly 900 reviews on Valve's platform, as players criticize the game's monetization. While it's a free Steam game, respondents are unimpressed by the prevalence of microtransactions and the costs of some in-game items, with some purchasables priced at $50.

"Was a huge fan of both the betas that came out, but instantly lost all desire to even start up a game after seeing how much of the customization that was in the beta was either removed entirely, or added behind a paywall and user marketplace," user 'Vellie' writes. "Don't even get me started on the $50 bundle of skins that cannot be customized."

"I was excited to play it until I was greeted by the 'micro' transactions and an auction house you can sell said 'micro' transactions on," 'qzacidman' adds. "$47.99 for a pilot and mech. This game had the potential to be the next big thing, but now I feel dirty playing it."

Mecha Break Steam out now microstransactions

Amazing Seasun Games has issued a boilerplate response to a handful of these reviews on Steam: "Thank you for playing Mecha Break. Player feedback is very important to us and I will forward this to the team. We would love to hear any additional feedback you may have to help improve the game."

However you feel about Mecha Break's monetization, you can check out the game on Steam yourself right now.
