Looking to unearth a Dig Shovels tier list? While most early Roblox Dig shovels can be found in a single spot, some of the best are dotted around the map or offered up as a reward for lengthy and complicated quests. Here's where to find the likes of the Spore Shovel or Solstice Shovel, and which Dig shovel is the best.
New to Dig in Roblox? One thing you don't need to slam your shovel into the ground for is new Dig codes. They're good for random crates and the odd vehicle accessory right now, but we're fully expecting some exclusive code Shovels in time. Want to see the game that inspired this? Check out Fisch codes. And if you're not feeling the grind right now, try Dress to Impress codes instead.
Since Dig's development was overseen by the creator of Fisch, many of the mechanics follow in the latter game's footsteps.
As such, expect the list of Dig Shovels to get longer and longer with each weekly or bi-weekly update. So long as the team doesn't do anything to squander its popularity, anyway.
Like Fisch rods, Dig Shovels are officially sorted into stages, or suggestions designed to simplify progression. For example, there's not much point going from the Toy Shovel, a Stage 1 tool, to the Stage 2 Bell Shovel if you have the $40,000 needed to skip straight to Stage 3 with the Slayers Shovel.
Similarly, upgrading the Slayers Shovel with the Shortcake Shovel likely isn't worth the investment given its minor pros and cons over the former, but entering Stage 3 with the Shortcake Shovel is generally a good idea.
Make sense? Check out the full Dig Shovels list below for advice on your next shovel, shovel locations, stats, and their passive abilities. We'll bold the recommended shovels.
Stat abbreviations should be interpreted as follows:
- Con - Control: Affects the size of the dig bar.
- Str - Strength: Increase progress made when hitting an item.
- Has - Haste: Reduces the cooldown after a non-strong hit.
- Lck - Luck: Increases the chance to dig up rarer items.
- Dmg - Boss Damage: Controls damage dealt against bosses.
All Stage 1 Dig Shovels
You start with the Wooden Shovel already equipped. Give it a go on the ground. If you can't figure out the minigame, speak to the tutorial guy to quickly afford the Training Shovel. He'll show you the ropes.
What's the best Stage 1 shovel?
Already know what you're doing? Upgrade from the Wooden Shovel to the Copper Shovel as soon as you can. You should be able to use this to afford the upgrade to a Stage 2 shovel fairly easily.
Grab the Rock Shovel if you're after the collection bonus from digging up undiscovered objects.

All Stage 2 Dig Shovels
Confused about that Boss stat on your shovel? That's for taking on limited-time spawns like the King Crab and Candlelight Phantom. If you picked up the Rock Shovel, taking on either of these bosses can get you a Stage 2 shovel at no extra cost. It's worth considering.
What's the best Stage 2 shovel in Dig?
If you're looking to relax in Dig, avoid the boss drop shovels and save your pennies for the Spore Spade. You'll find it by leaning against the giant mushroom by the Rooftop Woodlands approach, which is surrounded by researchers.
Shovel | Location | Cost ($) | Con/Str/Has/Lck/Dmg | Passive | Terrain |
Ruby Shovel | Cinder Shores | 6,500 | 6.5/7/3.5/13/20 | Rock | N/A |
Abyssal Shovel | Cinder Shores | Boss Drop (King Crab) | 5/9/1/10/35 | Rock | N/A |

Magnet Shovel | Cinder Cavern | 10,000 | 8/4/3/-100/20 | Rock | Only digs Junk-class items but often unearths Loot-class items. |
Jam Shovel | Verdant Vale | 20,000 | 4.5/4.5/6/12/27 | Dirt | Every 60 seconds, it has a 10% chance to buff nearby players' Haste stat by 0.5 |
Candlelight Shovel | Rooftop Woodlands | Boss Drop (Candlelight Phantom) | 5/10/5/15/45 | Dirt | N/A |
Spore Spade | Rooftop Woodlands (leaning on the crowded big mushroom) | 30,000 | 8/6/5/18/15 | Rock | 10% chance to spawn a Spawn Totem for 100 seconds, granting +6 Luck |
All Stage 3 Dig Shovels
Stage 3 is when quest requirement shovels start to surface, which can be some of the best around. If you're up for a fight, you can save tens of thousands by taking on the Giant Spider, too.
What's the best Stage 3 shovel in Dig?
The best Stage 3 Shovel is the Shortcake Shovel. With well-balanced stats, a reasonable price, and a quest requirement that's not nearly as rough as the rest, it's the best around.
While the Frigid Shovel's higher chance at a similar rate mutation may sound tasty on paper, the vastly reduced cost of the Shortcake lets its slightly more powerful passive edge out in terms of profitability.
Shovel | Location | Cost ($) | Con/Str/Has/Lck/Dmg | Passive | Terrain |
Arachnid Shovel | Spiders Keep | Boss drop - Giant Spider | 6.5/3/4/25/80 | N/A | Any |
Archaic Shovel | Salty's Saloon | 60,000 | 7/10.5/4/20/40 | Chance to increase Control each time you dig | Rock |
Slayers Shovel | Combat Guild | 40,000 (after 5 bosses) | 7/3/1/-20/5 | N/A | Dirt |
Shortcake Shovel | Tom's Bakery | 45,000 (after 5 Bakery quests) | 7/9/4/18/30 | 25% chance of 2x mutation 'Tasty' | Rock |
Pizza Roller | Penguin's Pizza | Quest reward - Deliver 30 pizzas | 8/13/1.5/9/55 | 25% chance of 1.45x mutation 'Pizza' | Any |
Frigid Shovel | Mount Cinder | 75,000 | 6/8/4.5/22/50 | 30% chance of 1.8x mutation Frigid | Rock |
All Stage 4 Dig Shovels
Stage 4 Shovels largely focus on rock. If Stage 4 is a big jump (and you expect the grind to Stage 5 to take some time), consider picking up the Venomous Shovel as well. That way, you can reap the rewards of discovering items in both terrain types.
What's the best Stage 4 shovel in Dig?
Given the lack of options here, the best tier 4 Dig shovel is likely the Gold Digger. Even beyond its frankly hilarious name, it has a solid passive ability with decent stats.
Given it's half the price of the Prismatic Shovel, which is even harder to find, it beats the similarly expensive Obsidian Shovel in practically every way. Having the patience to find this on the Traveling Merchant will pay off.
Shovel | Location | Cost ($) | Con/Str/Has/Lck/Dmg | Passive | Terrain |
Venomous Shovel | Copper Mesa | Boss drop - Basilisk | 3/11.5/7/16/75 | Boosted chance of 2x mutation 'Venomous' | Dirt |
Gold Digger | Traveling Merchant | 125,000 | 7/8.5/5/20/30 | 25% chance of 2.5x mutation 'Golden' | Rock |
Obsidian Shovel | Alona Jungle | 140,000 | 3/5/16/10/50 | N/A | Rock |
Prismatic Shovel | Traveling Merchant | 250,000 | 9/8/5/20/60 | 30% chance of 3.5x mutation 'Iridescent' | Rock |
All Stage 5 Dig Shovels
The final stage of Dig shovels for launch includes the Solstice Shovel and the incredibly rare (and equally expensive) Starfire Shovel.
What's the best Stage 5 Dig Shovel?
So long as you're decent at the game and know how to use Charms and Magnets properly, the Solstice Shovel is the better (and more accessible) Stage 5 Dig shovel around. Its STR stat means you'll dig things up at lightning speed if you can hit your mark.
If you're quick to the 600,000 cash milestone, consider upgrading to the Starfire Shovel if you happen to find it.
Struggling with the rarer digs? Tend to lag? Go with the Dragonic Shovel over the Solstice Shovel. Its higher Control stat will likely net you more cash over time if you tend to lose the minigame often.
Shovel | Location | Cost ($) | Con/Str/Has/Lck/Dmg | Passive | Terrain |
Solstice Shovel | Cinder Cavern | 190,000 | 0.5/26/5/5/65 | 10% chance of 2x mutation 'Venomous' and +1 Shiny chance | Dirt |
Glinted Shovel | Coper Mesa | 345,000 | 9/7.5/7/25/86 | Endurance heals over time. 20% chance of 2.5x mutation 'Golden' | Rock |
Draconic Shovel | Mount Charcoal | 170,000 | 16/3/3/15/50 | N/A | Rock |
Monstrous Shovel | Mount Charcoal | Boss drop - Molten Monstrosity | 8/8/7.5/12.5/85 | 50% chance of 1.1x mutation 'Dark' | Any |
Starfire Shovel | Meteor | 600,000 | 9/10/5/30/60 | 40% chance of 4x mutation 'Celestial' | Rock |
And that's it for the best Dig shovels right now. As mentioned earlier, expect dozens more spades and shovels to make their way into the game over the next few months.
