If you love nothing better than bashing in zombie skulls, then Oneway Ticket Studio's The Midnight Walkers is well worth wishlisting on Steam. Blending Dying Light's gritty horror atmosphere and gory zombie-slaying combat with extraction shooter gameplay, this hardcore FPS promises to put you through your paces when it's released into early access later this year.
The Midnight Walkers tasks you with surviving, and ideally thriving, as you explore the Liberty Grand Center mega complex, scavenging for gear and loot to withstand increasingly large, deadly hordes of zombies. Mutated variants, vicious survivors, and other players are also out for blood.
While The Midnight Walkers' setting, which consists of abandoned shopping malls, casinos, and hospitals, feels reminiscent of Dead Rising or Left 4 Dead, this isn't your average zombie game. Every few minutes, a poison gas is released, forcing you to abandon one area and find refuge elsewhere. If you die, you lose everything. As well as Dying Light or State of Decay, there are more than few hints here of Escape From Tarkov and PUBG.
But you don't have to face the unforgiving complex alone. Alongside solo mod there's a trio mode available, where you and two friends can enjoy mashing up the flesh-hungry zombies using The Midnight Walkers' diverse arsenal, which includes a hefty sledgehammer for optimal skull crashing, a single-barrel shotgun for bloody, up-close kills, and a more precise bolt-action rifle (for scaredy cats).
The Midnight Walkers doesn't currently have a release date, but we do know it's launching into early access in Q4 of this year, offering plenty of time to finish Dying Light: The Beast, before jumping into some co-op horror fun.
