It may have taken 15 years, but Ninjabee's beloved, charming city-builder A World of Keflings is finally coming to Steam later this month. First released in 2010 for Xbox 360, the quirky sequel to A Kingdom for Keflings is an often forgotten gem, but a must-play for fans of base building and wholesome (and downright absurd) fantasy worlds.
Classic city builder A World of Keflings sees you plonked into a universe of tiny creatures (the eponymous Keflings) as a giant. Utilizing your height advantage, you must help the Keflings restore their kingdom through planning and building. Don't worry, though: you don't need to do all the manual labor yourself. Instead, you can delegate tasks like gathering resources to your Kefling friends as you build your dream realm.
There's no rush to remodel the kingdom either (though the Keflings may disagree), as this laid-back base builder has no time limits, death, or combat. If you're bored with building, you can always explore the vast fantasy world and its eccentric residents. Expect quests and tales from dragons, witches, princesses, and some very sassy Keflings - and you can always leave your minions working while you wander.
And, you don't need to adventure alone. On Steam, A World of Keflings, like the original, supports online co-op, so you can embark on the game's many weird and wonderful quests with up to seven friends.
It's nice to see that A World of Keflings' classic gameplay experience remains largely untouched. But understandably the game has been updated for modern hardware, so the visuals look somewhat more polished and the characters look less like the original Xbox 360 avatars implemented 15 years ago.
A World of Keflings will be released on Steam on Tuesday, July 29. But if you can't wait that long, or simply want to try before you buy, you can download the free demo now.
