New Red Dead Redemption 2 online missions allegedly confirmed by Rockstar

Red Dead Redemption 2, and its Red Dead Online sister mode, could be coming back to life. As Rockstar shifts its focus onto GTA 6, the studio allegedly has some new RDO missions on the way that might revive the neglected multiplayer Western. This means that more than six years after Rockstar first launched RDR2, now could be the time to revisit the world of Arthur Morgan and John Marston.

Back in 2022, Rockstar made it clear it was moving on from Red Dead Redemption 2. The studio said it had "been steadily moving more development resources towards the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series," as the team began properly working towards the GTA 6 release date.

Then, just a few months later, an RDR2 patch added a sneaky note to the game's credits. It displayed the message: "Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped create Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online." This definitely sounded like Rockstar was winding down on what we've picked as one of the best Western games of all time.

As of right now, however, RDO might not be dead after all. Reliable Rockstar source 'videotechuk' says there's a new update coming on Tuesday July 1, as the studio has allegedly sent out a community email with the details.

"Author Theodore Levin needs your help investigating the bizarre and unexplained in Strange Tales of the West, a new set of four eerie Telegram Missions available tomorrow in Red Dead Online," Rockstar apparently writes in this email. "Track down undead plagues, rogue automations, swamp beasts, and more by collecting Mr. Levin's letter from any post office or your camp's lockbox, or by launching Telegram missions from the player menu."

This hopefully means that RDO, and Red Dead Redemption 2 by extension, aren't quite finished yet. With GTA 6 on the horizon it makes sense that RDR2 has been put on the back burner, but some of these new Telegram missions sound incredibly intriguing.

Rockstar's alleged mention of "undead plagues" could, hopefully, be referring to zombies. Considering how much we've fantasized about a follow up to Undead Nightmare, that's a very intriguing tease. Then there's mention of "rogue automations," which may mark the return of the robotic escapades of side character Marko Dragic.
