Why You Will Love This Bologna Salad

Old Fashioned Bologna Salad is one of those simple recipes that brings back memories with just one bite. Made with just a few ingredients and full of flavor, this classic has been showing up at family gatherings, country kitchens, and lunch tables for generations. It’s easy to make, budget-friendly, and still just as good today as it was years ago.

This is a recipe that many families relied on to make ends meet, it was cheap and was great for sandwiches, etc. This is a recipe that we love and have made for many many years. It’s great on crackers or as a spread.

Swaps or Additions

We like this recipe as it’s written, but you could easily add onions, any seasonings you like, switch the sweet relish for dill. We always use Duke’s mayonnaise but you can use whatever you prefer. Some add mustard and celery.

Do You Have To Grind It?

No, you can easily just cut the bologna up into small pieces with a knife or use a food processor to get it as small as you like. We actually used a small chopper, we cut it up into smaller pieces and then had the chopper finish the job. This salad is delicious either way.

  • 1 pound of your favorite bologna Can be a 1 lb. chunk or a package of sliced bologna
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup sweet pickle relish
  • 4 boiled eggs peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup salad dressing or mayonnaise
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • salt to taste optional
  • Chop the bologna in very small pieces or you can use a grinder or a food processor. Add the pickle relish, eggs, mayonnaise or salad dressing and black pepper. Mix well with a spoon. I think this is best after being being refrigerated overnight but you don’t have to wait. Makes about 4 cups.
