Better to be safe than sorry.

Samsung recently warned consumers who own Galaxy phones that they should activate the company's latest anti-theft features.

Samsung noted in a press release its latest security features were rolling out to more smartphones throughout the year and that reflected the company's "commitment to delivering smarter, stronger protection – helping users safeguard their data and stay in control, even in high-risk situations."

The security updates are a part of its latest software, One UI 7. Perhaps the key feature is what Samsung calls Theft Protection, which includes:

Mashable Light Speed

  • a motion-detection tool that locks a phone upon it being snatched

  • an auto-locking tool if a phone goes offline for an extended period of time

  • the ability to remote lock a phone if it's stolen

New robbery features also include biometric authentication for security setting changes and a delay tool that prevents someone from immediately resetting biometric information on a phone.

Samsung noted these features were now rolling out to older flagship devices, including the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold6, Z Flip6, Z Fold5, Z Flip 5, and S23 and S22 series.

The safety announcement from Samsung comes on the heels of a similar announcement for U.K. users earlier this month.

"These features have now also been rolled out into a range of models across our devices and further updates will follow," Annika Bizon, mobile experience VP of product and marketing at Samsung, said at that time. "We must do everything we can to ensure the safety and security of our customers when they are using their mobile devices and we will continue to work hard to ensure our customers are aware of the wide range of security features available to them."
