Hogwarts Legacy is free on Epic Games Store again, and tinfoil Sorting Hat on, I think it's time for a sequel reveal
Hogwarts Legacy is currently free on the Epic Games Store. Yes, this has happened before, and yes, it was relatively recently (December 2025, to be precise). However, the store's homepage doesn't promote it, so it seems like publisher Warner Bros. Games is giving it away randomly. Is it kindness? Is it just for Harry Potter Day? Perhaps. But, I've got my fingers crossed that it instead hints at a Hogwarts Legacy 2 reveal.
Harry Potter Day lands on Saturday, May 2, so in all honesty, this is probably just a promotional ploy for those who haven't got a copy of Hogwarts Legacy yet. This is further supported by the fact that it's only free until Sunday, May 3. However, the annual event is also the perfect time for the sequel's debut, and it would tie nicely into the Harry Potter series that releases later this year.
Recently, Avalanche Games hired a new Community Manager, which bodes well. If Hogwarts Legacy 2 has been in development for some time, then a five-year development cycle seems fair. That would put an official release at around 2028, but if a lot of the assets are reused - Hogwarts will always look like Hogwarts, after all - it could come sooner than that. I, for one, hope it will arrive alongside the series.

In any case, if you haven't given the first game a try just yet, you may as well claim Hogwarts Legacy for free on the Epic Games Store while you have the chance. Personally, I've been completing a new playthrough with some great mods, especially the Azkaban mod that punishes you for using Avada Kedavra and other unforgivable curses, an essential feature I hope the sequel adds.
