Overwatch could be heading to Fortnite and Rocket League in unlikely collab, and I need a D.Va car
I can't remember the last time Blizzard let Overwatch loose in another IP. Of course, the likes of Tracer, Lucio, and Junkrat are all playable in Heroes of the Storm, but I'm talking a full departure here. Well, the rumor mill regarding a potential collaboration with Fortnite and Rocket League has been rather lively as of late, and as purported leaks continue to trickle out, I'm starting to believe there's something here.
As shared by popular Fortnite leaker 'Shiina,' it looks like the multiplayer game crossover, should it materialize, will bring a suite of vehicle skins and decals to Rocket League. Fortnite, meanwhile, will be getting a shiny new Overwatch-themed Porsche Macan to zoom around in. I presume this will sport a similar wrap to the one showcased by Porsche at Gamescom 2024. It seems random, but there was an OW2 collab at the time… okay, it's still random.
But that's not all. Yesterday, a new Rivalry Umbrella teaser was shared on Fortnite's socials. More importantly in the context of this story, eagle-eyed viewers noticed that Fortnite Showdown Act 3 could see some map changes - specifically, new POIs that look like they've been pulled from Overwatch. I'm currently far more inclined to believe that the shrine and building that are being linked to Hanamura and Watchpoint: Gibraltar are generic architecture, but I'll take any chance I can to throw down in Hanamura. Blizzard, bring 2CP back for 6v6, pls.

It's not often you see Overwatch stepping out of its Blizzard-y boundaries. Though it's had plenty of crossovers in recent times, including mashups with Persona, NieR, and Hello Kitty, these have all been in-game cosmetics. Tracer and Mercy did make fleeting cameos in 2018 sci-fi flick Ready Player One, but that's all I've got for outbound collabs off the top of my head. Of course, if there's any game that Overwatch would pop up in, it's crossover king Fortnite.
With Fortnite Showdown set to end on June 5, there's not a whole lot of time for the Overwatch collaboration to arrive - you can check out Shiina's X posts here. Presumably, should there be fire to the smoke, then we'll officially hear more over the next week or so. Until then, don't get your hopes up too high, though the signs are looking promising.
