There's a new Vampire The Masquerade game in the works, and its setting is my absolute favorite

Berlin By Night is, perhaps, my favorite Vampire: The Masquerade setting. While the glitz and glamor of LA is the perfect backdrop for both Bloodlines 1 and Jason Carl's classic live play, LA By Night, the raw, underground feel of Berlin oozes style, and perfectly encapsulates the grit and grime of the World of Darkness. Imagine my glee, then, when I received the press release announcing Vampire: The Masquerade - Oaths and Ashes, a brand new visual novel set in Germany's capital. We're eating well in 2026, folks.

While Vampire: The Masquerade - Oaths and Ashes is developed by new studio Revive The Spark, it's immediately reminiscent of Draw Distance's New York games, taking a more simplistic, storytelling approach to the VTM universe than the likes of Bloodlines 2. You'll be able to choose between two different characters: ruthless Camarilla Ventrue Alice, and punk rocker Thinblood Lenz, who both have very different reasons for being in Berlin.

As Alice, you'll set about tearing out Berlin's foundations and rebuilding them in the Ivory Tower's image. As you do so, the in-game map will change, reflecting the political state of the city. Using her signature disciplines of Dominate, Presence, and Fortitude, she'll have to worm her way into the underground in order to destroy Berlin from within.

As Lenz, you'll be relying on your alchemical prowess instead - Thinbloods aren't full vampires, after all, and as a result don't have access to the same powers. You'll be able to brew your own formulas, gain new abilities, and weave your own way through the city, perplexing Kindred as you go.

Similar to Reckoning of New York, however, Alice and Lenz's actions have consequences, both on the wider city and each other. They can work together as part of an uneasy alliance, or betray one another in true Kindred style: their destinies are intertwined, and they're in your hands.

While, on the surface, Oaths and Ashes feels very Reckoning of New York, the ever-changing map and ability to actually play out developing new Thinblood Alchemy is a departure from the somewhat static, story-heavy feel of Draw Distance's games. You'll still have to balance your hunger as you use your disciplines, but I'm intrigued to see how all of these new systems come together to create something fresh.

As a Ventrue player by trade, I'm also excited for a VTM game that relies so heavily on politics. Maintaining the factional balance is a core part of the tabletop game - as an Anarch Ventrue turned Camarilla, I can attest to that. It's something that I feel like most of the modern VTM games have struggled to truly capture; I'm hopeful that Revive The Spark will stick the landing.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Oaths and Ashes is set to release in 2026. You can wishlist it right here - it was an insta-lock for me, especially in the wake of Bloodhunt shuttering. You can never get enough VTM, after all.
