We love pancakes, and this apple version is delicious! Top with our homemade apple syrup and you have a wonderful way to start the day!

Why You Will Love These Apple Pancakes
These pancakes are made with whole wheat and all-purpose flour, and we throw in some oats too. They have a wonderful flavor and the apple syrup is takes them up a notch! Great for a Sunday morning treat. These remind me of an apple crisp in pancake form. You can add raisins if you like or mix up the nuts or simply leave them out if you are not a fan. We made these with just Honey Crisp apples, but any apple will work. We have always used red apples.
Do You Have To Use Buttermilk?
No, you can make these with regular milk. We love to cook with buttermilk so it is always our “go to” choice, but if you just have regular milk.. that is fine!
Apple Syrup or Maple Syrup?
Either! We love the apple syrup if you want to go all out, but if you just want to make the pancakes, then just use maple syrup. Both are delicious!
Are These Apple Pancakes Fluffy or Dense?
These pancakes are denser, not like a fluffy pancake. So if you like a fluffier pancake, I would add some baking powder to the mix.

Course Breakfast
Cuisine American
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup oats, uncooked (you can use the quick-cooking oats or the rolled oats in this recipe)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 1/4 cups buttermilk (can use regular milk)
- 1 cup apple or about 1 large apple, peeled and grated
- 1/2 cup nuts of your choice Optional (I used walnuts)
- 1/2 cup raisins Optional
- Butter or oil for cooking
Apple Syrup
- 1 1/4 cups 100% pure apple juice or could use apple cider
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Combine all the ingredients and cook on griddle or in skillet until brown. I use about 1/4 cup batter to a pancake. You can add more milk if you want your batter thinner. This batter is thick.
Apple Syrup
Put ingredients in a small pot on stove. Bring to boil and use a wire whisk to stir. Cover and cook on medium for about 15 minutes stirring often. Remove and pour into small syrup pitcher.
