Death Road to Canada fans are feasting today. In addition to the release of the new Pancreas update, developer Rocketcat has announced a spiritual successor to the hit Steam zombie game is officially in the works, and you'll be able to play it with your squad online.

Released back in 2016, pixelated roguelike Death Road to Canada is easily one of the best zombie games on Steam. And it's just got even better, thanks to the new Pancreas update. Pancreas introduces four significant changes to gameplay, as well as quality-of-life revisions and some smaller additions.

Death Road to Canada

First, there's a new Trader at trading camps, who sells three different weapons with unique mechanics, each of which benefit from new reload systems. The short-range Duck Hunter shotgun fires ricocheting shrapnel and reloads a shell at a time while boasting a faster fire rate than normal shotguns. The Dolt Big Iron pistol can fire six fast shots but has a longer reload time. Then there's the strong Flip Rifle, which can fire much faster if you pull the trigger immediately after reloading.

Next, there are three new Special Recruits in trader camps: big game hunter Van Smelt, gunslinger Honcho, and pool player Pool Champ. Each of these Special Recruits costs 15 food and has their own unique mechanics. Van Smelt is best at headshots and longshots thanks to his rifle, Honco dual wields ranged weapons, and Pool Champ has an unbreakable pool cue, allowing you to cause some serious chaos.

In addition to these new additions, Death Road to Canada's OPP Mode has also been updated for new characters, while modders will benefit from more organized, self-contained update files.

But that's not all. Rocketcat Games has also announced a spiritual sequel to Death Road to Canada called Space Dingus. Built in a new engine, this sci-fi action roguelike will support drop-in online co-op multiplayer, mouse aiming, extensive mod support through Steam Workshop, and customizable spaceships. Essentially, it's a bit like Death Road to Canada, but in space and with multiplayer.

According to the developer, if Space Dingus does well, we may get a "true," fantasy-themed sequel to Death Road to Canada, tentatively called Death Road 2 Canada 2: 2WICE. It's giving us major Fast and Furious vibes.

While Space Dingus doesn't have a release date yet, we should hear more about it in Rocketcat Games' anniversary news post, which we expect will be published on Death Road's ninth birthday, Thursday, July 22. The developer has also promised more frequent updates this year and a "big surprise event" in the coming months, so keep an eye on the official Rocketcat Discord and the Space Dingus Steam page for more.
