The Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake has had its biggest tease yet, thanks to a video of a fan's (on the surface) casual interaction with Edward Kenway voice actor Matt Ryan at a recent convention. While this may seem like a standard meet-and-greet affair, Ryan dropped a few cheeky hints that the long-rumored Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake is indeed on the way.

A video posted on TikTok by 'therebelarchive' on Sunday June 29 (and shared by 'SuperDropKick17' on X), shows the fan meeting Ryan during the Chicago Nightmare Weekend convention in May. As Ryan signs some Assassin's Creed Black Flag merch for them, he asks, "Have you beaten the game?" before following up with, "You might have to beat it again." The video then shows Ryan giving a knowing look, before saying "There's a reason I say that, but I can't say anything." It's a brief interaction, but perhaps the biggest tease yet that one of the best pirate games of all time is being remade.

Ryan's tease adds fuel to the fire of speculation surrounding an Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake. Back in June 2024, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that "some remakes" of Assassin's Creed games are in the works. Guillemot didn't confirm which games will undergo the remake treatment, sparking rumors a remake or remaster of Black Flag - arguably the most beloved game in the action-adventure series - is one of the titles on the cards.

In addition, Assassin's Creed Collectible maker PureArts representatives suggested a Black Flag remake is on the way during a stream back in May.

Paired with Matt Ryan's comments, the evidence is mounting that Ubisoft is gearing up to reveal the long-rumored Black Flag remake in the not-too-distant future. Ryan's comments also suggest he is involved in the project, likely returning as swashbuckling pirate protagonist Edward Kenway.

When we might see this Black Flag remake remains a mystery, however. We do know that Ubisoft is currently aiming to release its Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake in 2026 (following several delays). Its Splinter Cell remake, revealed in 2021, is still without a release date. Fingers-crossed Ubisoft puts the rumors to rest in the coming months with a reveal at Gamescom or The Game Awards.
