This brutal 95%-rated Postal spin-off is one of Steam's greatest boomer shooters, and it's just $1 right now

The Postal series is infamous for being riddled with bugs, and gross humor that makes South Park look tame. While critically it scores poorly, developer Running with Scissors wears that pee-covered badge with pride. Postal: Brain Damaged gives the series a new spin, with a different development team in control, and this Quake/Doom-style take isn't just good - it's an absolutely essential FPS game for your Steam library. Don't believe me? Well, it's just $1 / £1 right now, so you don't really have an excuse.

Postal 2 is a classic, in a weird way, while the sequel - Postal 4 (there is no Postal 3) is widely regarded as… not great. It's currently sitting at a 32% rating on Steam, and as someone who was unfortunate enough to play it, it's just depraved in the worst ways. When I first gave Postal: Brain Damaged a try, I couldn't get the disgusting stench or the horrible taste of Postal 4 out of my mouth, worried it would happen again. Fortunately, that wasn't the case.

Set in the Postal Dude's mind, Brain Damaged does away with the open-world satire that the series is known for in favor of a more focused, streamlined approach. That doesn't take away from the degenerate vibes; if anything, it heightens them. You can pee on demand, a core feature for Postal, which I'm sure Kojima stole for Death Stranding (only half joking), and there are plenty of jokes and sick humor that I won't get into because I don't want this article to be censored by the Google overlords - you can find it out yourself.

Whether you're looking to view past the disgusting jokes or revel in them, Postal: Brain Damaged is one of the best boomer-shooters on the market. And that is not a joke. The old-school graphics bring the nostalgia, but the strafe and dodge movements feels very modern. Each of the Postal Dude's weapons, from the Nailbiter to the BFG 69000, land with a crunchy impact that feels satisfying. Brain Damaged also nails the challenging aspect of any good '90s-inspired FPS, similar to Ultrakill or Warhammer 40k: Boltgun.

I never thought I'd be recommending a Postal game, but well, here we are. If you're looking to grab a new addition to your Steam library, Postal: Brain Damaged is one of the many games in the Build Your Own Adrenaline Bundle from Fanatical. You can grab three games for $3 / £3, or buy even more to get it down to just 95 cents each. The other games you can grab are:

  • Blind Fate: Edo no Yami
  • The Darkest Tales
  • Cosmic Waves
  • Storm Edge
  • Sniper Elite V2 Remastered
  • Hyper Demon
  • Aaero2
  • Xmas Apocalypse
  • Hammerwatch 2
  • Afterimage: Deluxe Edition

So, whether you're hoping to play a heart-pumping good boomer shooter, or you're looking to experience the depravity that only Postal fans can enjoy, Postal: Brain Damaged is a great option - and at just $1, it's an absolute must-play. So long as you can stomach or look past some of the more gut-turning jokes.
