FF14 Evercold release date window, jobs, trailers, and latest news

What is the FF14 Evercold release date? The FF14 8.0 expansion is the next stage of the MMO's grand adventure, and the start of what game director Naoki 'Yoshi-P' Yoshida is dubbing 'The Godless Realms Saga.' It will see the Warrior of Light and their companions head to the Fourth, one of the many reflections of the Source, and a land facing a devastating flood of ice.

Yoshida has hailed Final Fantasy 14 Evercold as "taking you to the next level." That's both literal, as the in-game level cap of the MMORPG will be going up by ten, but also metaphorical. There are fundamental overhauls across the board, with changes to the weekly rewards system, massive character creation improvements, and even a new way to play every job, called 'Evolved Mode.'

The FF14 Evercold release date is January 2027. We don't have an exact date yet, but game director Naoki Yoshida confirmed at Fanfest Anaheim that the new 8.0 expansion would be launching right at the top of 2027. Patch 7.56, which will act as our final setup for the new story, is launching on September 8, 2026, so we'll have a four-month wait.

There's just one trailer for FF14 Evercold so far, which was shown during the reveal at FF14 Fanfest NA in Anaheim on Friday April 24, 2026. It opens with the lines: "Hold fast to what you must, and meet your fate without fear. Go forth. Discover. Unite the stars unto one. Let none bar your path." It confirms the involvement of Estinien and Alphinaud, along with a few new figures, including several Au Ra and a mysterious woman with her face obscured by a hood.

The voiceover reveals that spreading frost on the land below forced people to flee to the skies, with floating islands acting as salvation. In fact, lots of the early concept art has been relatively free of the cold, with some notable Norse inspirations in the structure design, and a race of small. bipedal cats that resemble Monster Hunter palicos. There is, however, the promise of giant arcane titans that walk across the frozen plains.

FF14 Evercold Evangelion crossover

One of the biggest announcements for the expansion is that the 24-player alliance raid series will be a crossover with anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. The show has been celebrating its 30th anniversary, and self-admitted "Evangelion otaku" Yoshida says he's feeling the pressure to deliver something worthy of the moment. If the release follows tradition, we can expect to see these arrive in patches 8.1, 8.3, and 8.5.

New FF14 Evercold jobs

We're getting two new FF14 jobs with the Evercold expansion. One will be a Tank, and the other a Ranged Physical DPS, and both are "FF14 originals." We don't know any more than that for now, although there's plenty of space for speculation courtesy of the t-shirt Yoshida wore during the Fanfest reveal panel. It was an old FF14 design featuring A Realm Reborn baddie Rhitahtyn sas Arvina, with the caption "Guess Who's Back?" That could mean we're in for some kind of greatshield user, or a dual-wield build.

FF14 Evolved Mode vs Reborn Mode

One of the biggest changes in Evercold is the introduction of Evolved Mode and Reborn Mode. You can think of this as a complete reinvention of the core battle system, albeit one that players can choose to opt into. Evolved Mode redesigns the classes you know with fewer skills and more flexible rotations to increase the freedom players have, while also moving away from the old "two-minute meta" of party-wide buffs and widening the potential for fight design. Reborn Mode, meanwhile, will allow you to keep playing in much the same way you always have, although they won't be available on the two newcomers.

Some Evolved Jobs will feel quite close to their Reborn counterparts, while others, like Dragoon and Bard, play quite differently. The two variants will share their job level and gear, and you can switch between them whenever you like outside of combat, but Evolved will learn its skills at slightly different times, with the goal of filling out the core rotations by level 50 and then just upgrading or evolving that set afterwards.

To create this tighter group of skills, Evolved Jobs combine core skill rotations such as the basic three-attack combos into single buttons, and also feature 'branching' skills that will act differently depending on who you are targeting. The Paladin's 'Divine Justice,' for example, uses Holy Spirit when targeting an enemy, but Clemency if you use it on an ally. Yoshida says all content will be possible with both styles - he thinks the new Evolved Jobs might be "just slightly stronger," but knowing the FF14 balance team I'd expect minimal difference.

FF14 Evercold story

For now, details on what the Evercold story will entail are relatively light, but Yoshida has confirmed that our future involves traveling the reflections. If you've finished Dawntrail's patch MSQ, you'll know of the Ascian Halmarut's proclamation of "the great withering to come," which she says "echoes in the silence left by the will of the star."

From this, along with the longer arc being dubbed 'The Godless Realms Saga,' we can assume that the absence of Hydaelyn and Zodiark is causing the reflections to falter, or perhaps lose connection to the Source. Bearing the seat and the crystal of Azem, the Traveler, we'll be using the Key obtained during Dawntrail to visit the other reflections, and presumably find some way to link the worlds back together. It's possible that this goal will only be started in Evercold, with more coming in future expansions.

FF14 Evercold level cap

The level cap in Final Fantasy 14 Evercold will be 110, an increase of ten from the previous expansion, Dawntrail. You'll need to own Evercold to climb past 100, but will be able to do so before you start the new story if you wish. Based on previous releases, we can expect the new jobs to start at level 90 once unlocked.

FF14 Evercold content

What content can we expect in Evercold? While a lot of the bigger details won't be revealed until closer to launch (or after it, in the case of some of the patch additions), we've got a broad overview of everything we can expect. There's a level cap increase from 100 to 110, new zones (probably a total of six, based on previous expansions), and the same number of dungeons as with past offerings (approximately six through MSQ and two for the endgame).

Alongside this is the promise of new trials, which we typically get three of. We'll also get an eight-player raid series, which usually arrives in three parts (likely patches 8.0, 8.2, and 8.4), each featuring four fights. Along with normal and savage difficulty, a 'hard' mode will be introduced that's between the other two. Then there's the aforementioned Evangelion 24-player alliance raids (probably patches 8.1, 8.3, and 8.5). Finally, we'll be getting at least one new ultimate raid, FF14's hardest challenge.

You can also expect updates for the remainder of FF14's core systems: PvP, FATEs, Treasure Hunts, The Hunt, and a wealth of new gear and crafting recipes. The Tomestone rewards system is being overhauled, and will now be focused around weekly goals rather than daily ones. Yoshida has even teased the possibility that you will be able to 'catch up' on any weekly Tomes that you missed from one week prior.

That's all we know for now about Final Fantasy 14 Evercold. We'll continue to update this as more details come out, which is expected to happen at Fanfest Berlin on July 25 and Fanfest Tokyo on October 31, 2026.

In the meantime, keep an eye on our FF14 server status guide so you know when downtime is coming. You can also look through the FF14 system requirements, which shouldn't be changing for PC players with the launch of Evercold.
