Escape from Tarkov's new sister shooter will have maps that are 4x EFT's size

Nikita Buyanov, the creator and game director of Escape From Tarkov, states that the maps in his upcoming sci-fi shooter will be "four to five times the size of Tarkov's," revealing the mindblowing scale of the combat simulator he's been working on for the last 18 months.

Fragmentary Order, which is being developed by a new studio named Rant Gaming Studios rather than Battlestate, was announced in a trailer on April 16, giving us a first look at the highly anticipated FPS game.

Buyanov states that, after help develop Escape From Tarkov for ten years, he felt "tired" and needed to work on something new. While it will retain Tarkov-like elements, he refrained from calling it an extraction shooter, choosing instead to refer to it as a "combat simulator."

Speaking to GamesBeat, Buyanov revealed that Fragmentary Order, which is built on Epic's Unreal Engine rather than Unity like Tarkov, has play areas that "can be four to five times the size of Tarkov maps" and will have vehicles to make getting around easier. As for whether there will be smaller maps that prioritize tight combat, Buyanov stated: "We'll see. We're still thinking about what it will be like. There will definitely be smaller locations to have more [close quarters] fights."

Considering that some Tarkov maps can cover as much as 800,000 square meters, that's no mean feat; we could be battling on a scale unlike anything we've ever seen in Tarkov.

Unfortunately, there's currently no release date for Fragmentary Order, but he did confirm that the game is in the early stages of testing, and will start closed alpha testing soon. I, for one, can't wait to get my hands on it, although I'm not fooling myself into thinking it will be easy, especially after Buyanov revealed they want to create "the most painful, most challenging, and most rewarding experience."
