CS2's redesigned Cache map is finally coming, and I can't wait

Since the release of CS2 back in 2023, Valve has been remastering classic Counter-Strike maps for the new game, giving them fresh coats of paint and adjusting how they play. Now, we're getting our first look at the new version of Cache, with Valve giving us a sneak peek at T-side spawn.

Cache is one of Counter-Strike's most iconic maps, but it was removed from the active map pool in 2019. Since then, fans of the legendary FPS game have been clamoring for its return, but Valve has stayed silent on the matter until now. It's been almost a year since 'de_cache' was spotted in the code of an update in May 2025.

All we've gotten so far is a shot of the floor, which features a zebra crossing spreading across the concrete. While that may not sound like much, it's clear to see that there have been some major improvements to both the textures and lighting of the map, especially when you compare the image from their X account to the CS:GO version of the map.

CS2's redesigned Cache map is finally coming, and I can't wait. An image comparing the zebra crossings on T-side spawn between CS:GO and CS2, showing improved textures and lighting.

As for when we'll get our hands on the new version of the map? That remains to be seen, but if history tells us anything, Valve doesn't drop teasers for new additions until they're ready to release, so it seems likely that we're looking at weeks and possibly days, rather than having to wait months.

Cache joins Inferno, Train, and Overpass as the fourth classic CS2 map to be remade. With the game running on the improved Source 2 engine, Valve can improve the graphics and textures of its maps, making the game feel fresh.

This has been an extremely busy week for Counter-Strike already, with Valve dropping an update on Tuesday, April 21 that introduced AnimGraph V2, a new animation system that improved the movement of characters in-game. They followed this up a day later with a second patch that adjusted the camera motion when firing weapons to feel more like CS:GO - a change that has received widespread praise.
