Xbox Game Pass report claims you'll be able to pick which features you pay for

Xbox is reportedly considering a new model for its Game Pass subscription, allowing you to dictate how much you pay for the service by selecting specific features and content packages, and removing ones you're not interested in. That would mean that, if you subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate but didn't want to pay for Fortnite Crew or access to Xbox Cloud Gaming, you could simply remove them from your package and reduce the monthly cost.

The report also suggests that Xbox could tie in other subscriptions and perks that you would be able to select instead, such as signing up for a Minecraft Realm or getting a World of Warcraft subscription as part of your Ultimate Pass. Each change to your Game Pass would alter the price, meaning you could make it as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. The mention of content packages also suggests you may be able to pick genres of games. For example, if you're only interested in multiplayer games, you could select that package and ignore everything else.

As stated by Jez Corden for Windows Central, Microsoft sources have told him that this is the "long-term goal" for Game Pass as Xbox tries to attract more subscribers for the platform while also attempting to bring some hype back to the brand.

This has been a big week for Game Pass News, with Microsoft announcing on Tuesday, April 21, that it's cutting the price of both Game Pass Ultimate, after the October 2025 price hike from $30 to $23, and PC Game Pass from $16.50 to $14. There's a pretty major catch, though, as Call of Duty will no longer be available on the service from day one. This change comes a week after an internal memo from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, leaked by The Verge, stated that Game Pass had "become too expensive for players" and needed "a better value equation."

Still, even with the next edition of CoD not launching on the service, there will still be a host of huge Game Pass games in 2026, with blockbusters like Forza Horizon 6, Fable 4, and Subnautica 2 on the slate for this year.
