AMD Zen 6 guide - all the latest on the next generation of Ryzen gaming CPUs

AMD Zen 6 is the codename of the architecture for AMD's next generation of desktop CPUs, which could arrive as the new Ryzen 10000 series. The follow-up to its current-generation Zen 5/Ryzen 9000 processors, not a lot is yet known about the expected specs and performance of the lineup, but it's believed the new chips will be unveiled at the end of 2026 or beginning of 2027.

Zen 6 will be vying with Intel's rival Nova Lake architecture to deliver the best gaming CPU options when they both arrive at what is believed to be a very similar times. Below, we explore what we know so far about the upcoming AMD processors.

AMD Zen 6 specs rumors

Not a lot is known about the AMD Zen 6 specs. However, there are a few tidbits floating around. The most recent rumor comes from YouTube channel RedGamingTech, which reports that Zen 6 CPUs will have a massive boost in clock speed over its current CPUs. They suggest we could see clock speeds surpass 7GHz, speeds up across the board by around 10%.

This source also claims the new chips will have a 10-15% boost in instructions per clock, which means that not only will the chips run at a higher clock, but they will be able to do more with each tick of that clock.

The number of cores these chips might contain isn't confirmed, but some rumors suggest up to 24 cores, while others suggest as high as 36. Recently, though, an apparent Zen 6 CPU appeared on the Geekbench benchmark site, showing this to be a 10-core chip said to be an engineering sample.

Otherwise, we are expecting AMD to again implement some form of 3D V-Cache on some Zen 6 chips, which would add a second chip containing extra L3 cache underneath the main CPU core die. These will continue the X3D lineup of CPUs that, for a few years now, have been the fastest gaming CPUs around.

What we do know about Zen 6 is that it will be based on the chip design codenamed Olympic Ridge, at least for desktop CPUs - mobile one fall under the Medusa Point design. These may arrive as Ryzen 10000 CPUs, or AMD could rework its numbering system for this launch, so as not to have its product names be too long and unwieldy.

Also confirmed is that Olympic Ridge chips will support existing AM5 motherboards, so you'll be able to update from a Ryzen 7000 or Ryzen 9000 setup, once you've updated your motherboard's BIOS.

AMD Zen 6 release date speculation

Based on the latest leaks and rumors, the AMD Zen 6 release date is expected to be in Q4 of 2026 or in early 2027. This could mean an unveiling at the CES 2027 tech trade show in January of that year, which has regularly been an event where either new CPU designs are showcased, or where many products based on new CPUs announced at the end of the year before are shown off.

AMD Zen 6 is expected to launch at around the same time as Intel's rival Nova Lake CPUs, putting them head-to-head in the fight for a place in your gaming PC. You can read more about that upcoming launch in our Nova Lake guide.
