How to fast travel in Windrose

How do you fast travel in Windrose? It can take a little while to find your feet on that starting island; there are trees to cut down, rocks to smash, and more than a few dodos to fight. Eventually, though, you'll begin to branch out, exploring other islands and settlements, and unless you want to sail everywhere, you'll need to know how to fast travel.

There are a couple of ways to fast travel in Windrose, but like many crafting games, you'll have to put a bit of work in before you can set up your network. Eventually, though, you'll be able to travel to important locations in the blink of an eye, although we wouldn't suggest fast travel all the time - got to explore some time, you know?

Windrose fast travel: a crude map showing an island and several points of interest.

To fast travel in Windrose, you need to have fast travel points available, which can be accessed through your map. These fast travel points require a Fast Travel Bell, which can be crafted from your workbench.

To craft a Fast Travel Bell, you need:

  • 10x Copper
  • 3x Rope

To craft a fast travel point, you need:

  • Fast Travel Bell
  • 20x Wood

Initially, you need at least two of these fast travel points to go between, but once you have access to a boat or a ship, you can fast travel to a fast travel point from the helm. You can only place ten points in your world, so don't go thinking you can put one on every island you come across, although destroying old ones to make room for new ones is a viable strategy.

New, static, fast travel points will also be unlocked as you discover big settlements. Tortuga, for instance, has a permanent fast travel point on the beach so you can quickly get to the trading posts whenever you have a bag of loot you need to shift.

Eventually, you'll have a network of fast travel points to freely dart from one end of the world to the other, so if you need a ton of copper ore, for instance, you don't have to trudge on foot to the nearest cave; you can simply teleport to the most abundant source in reach.
