It's been a pretty amazing few months when it comes to must-play new games, but the downside is that my backlog is looking longer than usual. Valve has now gone and worsened my pain, because some huge discounts in the Steam Summer Sale are about to see it swell even more. From recently released big hitters, to breakout indies, to classics that you can pick up for less than a takeout coffee, I've rifled through the hundreds of deals and picked out ten of my favorites.

A big seasonal Steam sale is always the perfect time to pick up freshly launched titles with a few dollars shaved off, or to grab some of the best PC games of all time at ridiculously low prices. Times are hard for so many of us, and the Summer Sale will at least help alleviate some of the financial strain of finding something awesome to play. So, let's dive into those deals - I think you'll like what you see.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 (10% off)

We're starting off with a small discount, but it's one you should absolutely take advantage of nonetheless. Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is the current frontrunner for Game of the Year - a masterpiece that's managing to convert even the staunchest of naysayers to the ways of turn-based RPGs. You've no doubt heard about its sky-high review scores (both from critics and players), and the hype's not misplaced.

Despite being a turn-based experience, there's a reactivity to Expedition 33 that means it avoids being too sluggish or predictable. As well as thinking strategically for your own turns, you also have to read your foes' attack patterns and know when to dodge and parry their assaults. It's also visually stunning, it's beautifully performed by its cast, and delivers a compelling narrative that you'll want to see through to the end. This is the first post-launch discount Expedition 33 has received, and even though it's modest, it's still very welcome. You can grab it now for $44.99 / £37.79.

Oblivion Remastered (20% off)

The Elder Scrolls 4 is an all-time great RPG, and this year's Oblivion remaster elevates it to new heights. Very little of its original charm has been lost, despite the huge visual upgrade, and the realm of Cyrodiil has withstood the test of time - open-world games have come on a long way in the years since it launched, but few manage to lure you off the beaten path (and the main questline) quite like Oblivion.

Whether you want to relive the game for a major nostalgia hit, or you're a younger RPG fan just looking for a great adventure to get stuck into, Oblivion Remastered delivers on both fronts. The Summer Sale knocks 20% off, making it $49.99 / £39.99.

Death Stranding Director's Cut (60% off)

Death Stranding 2 has just dropped for those on PS5, and by all accounts, Kojima's whipped up another unbelievable game. However, it won't arrive on PC for a while, but that doesn't mean you should miss out on the Death Stranding hype. The Director's Cut of the first game has just sunk to an all-time low price thanks to the Steam Summer Sale, so if it's been sat in your backlog a while (or its reputation for being a 'walking simulator' has put you off paying full price for it) now's the time to grab it.

Mixing open-world exploration and traversal with Kojima's trademark cinematic and eccentric storytelling, Death Stranding is definitely worth experiencing, even if you don't end up totally falling for it. Not only will it get you prepared for Death Stranding 2 - a markedly better game in almost every department - but it's pretty much guaranteed to be unlike anything you're playing right now. At just $15.99 / £13.99, it's also a lot of game for your money.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 (90% off)

One iconic shooter that's seen a welcome resurgence over the last few weeks is Star Wars Battlefront 2. While its loathsome loot boxes soured its reputation when it launched in 2017, today it's groaning with great single-player and multiplayer content, features a huge cast of iconic Star Wars characters, and looks like it could have feasibly been released last week.

While it shares a lot of its DNA with the Battlefield series, and offers up some similarly massive battles, it doesn't just feel like a Star Wars-flavored reskin. It's a mix of third and first-person, and certain multiplayer modes let you earn your way to playing as powerful characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, Yoda, or Chewbacca. It's a beloved shooter, and its popularity has skyrocketed recently. If you want to join in the good times while the servers are still well-stocked with players, you can grab it right now for just four bucks thanks to its 90% discount.

Schedule 1 (30% off)

We've had some huge indie hits this year already, but Schedule 1 is arguably the biggest and the best. Offering a GTA-lite experience, Schedule 1 tasks you with building a drug dealing empire in the town of Hyland Point. You'll need to grow your produce, invest in equipment and bases of operation, travel around town to distribute the goods, and defend your turf from rival dealers. While it's fun to experience this blend of management sim and FPS game on your own, hilarious moments can be created when playing Schedule 1 co-op. It supports up to four players in the same world, and you can work together to expand your empire even more rapidly.

It's not a massively expensive game to begin with, but the Steam Summer Sale has knocked 30% off to bring Schedule 1 down to its lowest ever price. You can grab it right now for $13.99 / £11.72.

Assassin's Creed Shadows (25% off)

Speaking of games hitting their lowest price yet, the new Assassin's Creed game just got its first big post-launch discount. For purists, AC Shadows is much further from the series' roots than the more compact Mirage. But in my view, it's still the best Assassin's Creed game we've had in a very long while. Yes, it's another enormous, sprawling open-world RPG, but it finally takes us to Japan, a location fans have been begging for for years.

With two interchangeable protagonists, it's also not afraid to shake things up in the gameplay department. While the incredibly agile and stealthy Naoe is the most extreme embodiment of the assassin fantasy yet, the heavy, brutish Yasuke is the polar opposite. While Naoe can sneak and shuriken her way through encounters and lurk in the shadows, Yasuke kicks down the door, screams a battle cray, and batters foes senseless with heavy melee weapons. There are also allied NPCs you can summon into battle, you can construct and customize your own hideout, and the dynamic seasons will transform the world around you as you progress through the game. Assassin's Creed Shadows is currently 25% off in the Steam Summer Sale, and that means you can pick it up for $52.49 / £49.99.

Space Marine 2 (40% off)

If you're a big Warhammer 40k fan, chances are you're already serving the Emperor in Space Marine 2, but for those outside that fandom, it might seem like a daunting game to get stuck into. However, even if you don't know the difference between a Tyranid and a Necron, that shouldn't stop you from enjoying one of the best co-op shooters around.

With some mindblowing visuals, incredible character and weapons designs, a stellar campaign, and loads of PvE or PvP game modes, Space Marine 2 is an amazing experience even if some of the lore passes you by. If you and your pals enjoy games like Helldivers 2, Borderlands, or Call of Duty Zombies, this will scratch all the same itches, and you never know, it might be your gateway into the world of Warhammer 40k. Space Marine 2 isn't even a year old yet, but this 40% discount means you can grab it for just $35.99 / £32.99.

Battlefield 1 + Battlefield 4 (95% off)

I've already highlighted one amazing DICE game for you, so here's two more: Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 4. I know that two games in the same entry is cheating slightly, but hey, they're so cheap you can pick up both for less than pretty much anything else on this list. I'm a huge fan of the Battlefield series, and even though its most recent iteration, 2042, missed the mark, the four or five games that came before it are all must-play first-person shooters.

Both of these games offer up similar experiences - massive conflicts on varied, dynamic battlegrounds, with players able to hop between role-based boots-on-the-ground action or vehicular combat. However, while Battlefield 4 has all the highly advanced gear of near-future warfare, Battlefield 1 transplants the experience into the First World War. Red dot optics, spy drones, and fighter jets are swapped for bolt action rifles, cavalry swords, and airships. Both games are brilliant, both are 95% off right now making them just two bucks each, and both should be in your library if they aren't already. You should still find some multiplayer lobbies too, with active player bases remaining for both games on Steam.

Tempest Rising (20% off)

One of our favorite new strategy games of the year so far is Tempest Rising. A spiritual successor to Command and Conquer, it leans on the classic RTS while forging its own distinctive path as well. Right now, you can play as one of two factions - the Global Defense Force or the Tempest Dynasty - with a third on the way in the future. It's your job to command a military force to win key battles across a war-torn Earth that's being taken over by mysterious, supernatural vines. These vines can be harnessed as a source of energy, and the two factions both want to claim them for themselves.

All of the expected RTS boxes have been ticked - there's base building, a huge lineup of units to deploy and command, and some online multiplayer modes alongside two single-player campaigns. It feels both classic and modern at the same time, and right now it's 20% off, making it $31.99 / £27.99.

Silent Hill 2 remake, 40% off, £35.99

To close things out, we've got Bloober Team's stunning remake of one of the best horror games ever created. Silent Hill 2 reimagines the titular, fog-filled town and the struggles of James Sunderland in beautiful detail, and while the story closely treads in the original's footprints, Bloober has modified some existing encounters, and added in some new ones too.

Even if you never experienced the original and don't have an affinity for the Silent Hill series, it's still a haunting, atmospheric horror game with some brilliant exploration and puzzles that'll really make you think. It should also help get you in the mood for Silent Hill f which drops later this year. If horror is your bag and you haven't played Silent Hill 2's remake yet, grab it right now while it's $41.99 / £35.99 - that's its joint-lowest price ever on Steam.

So there you have it, ten amazing deals from the Steam Summer Sale 2025. If none of these games take your fancy, there are of course hundreds more discounts being offered by Valve right now, so if there's a game you've had your eye on for a while, head to its Steam page now to check if it's included.
