Get Assassin's Creed Valhalla and 7 other games for under $2 each in the latest Humble Choice line-up

Some months, the Humble Choice lineup is fine. Your socks aren't blown off, but you're not going to turn your nose up at free games.  Other months have you questioning how they managed to get a certain game in the selection. April's Humble Choice definitely leans toward the latter. With eight games included in the subscription, you're effectively getting each title for under $2… and when one of the games is a big blockbuster like Assassin's Creed Valhalla, it's quite juicy.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla going for less than the price of a cup of coffee is delightfully absurd. This is Ubisoft at its most expansive: a sprawling Viking saga set across Norway and England, where you play as Eivor, a raider building a settlement while getting tangled in the eternal Assassin vs Templar conflict. It's a big open world game full of exploration through the English island (I always enjoy a video game version of a place I know!) and with everything you would expect in a Viking game: raids (these poor innocent monasteries), alliances, mythological arcs, settlement building… it's a feast.

Like most modern open-world games, it's long. Very long. But that's also part of the appeal. I would definitely not dive into this game lightly. You've got to make sure you've got the headspace for it because you'll want to disappear from the real world for a while. Like with its predecessor, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, there is a main storyline but also an endless list of side quests, so you can follow whatever thread catches your attention.

Richard Scott-Jones gave it a solid 8/10 in our Assassin's Creed Valhalla review, calling it "the best Assassin's Creed since Origins set the new format, and maybe even the best ever." I actually much preferred Odyssey, I felt more invested in the story and found the Ancient Greek world more engaging. So I wouldn't go as far as to say it's the best Assassin's Creed, but it is still a very good game.

So, how does Humble Choice actually work, anyway? It's a monthly subscription where you get a curated selection of eight games every month - and they're yours to keep forever, even if you cancel. Think of it as a slightly chaotic lucky dip, except the prizes are often very real. Big AAA titles, indie darlings, hidden gems, all bundled together for less than the price of a single new release. You can stay for as many months as you like, or just subscribe for the one, because there's a game you've been eyeing. It also gives you discounts on just about everything in the Humble Store, which grows the longer you subscribe for.

This month's lineup is a perfect example of that mix. It includes:

  • Assassin's Creed Valhalla
  • Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion
  • The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria
  • Until Then
  • Planet of Lana
  • Artisan TD
  • The Procession to Calvary
  • Buddy Simulator 1984

This month's selection will be available until Tuesday, May 5. Humble Choice always refreshes on the first Tuesday of each month. If you've somehow never played Valhalla, this is your moment. And if you have? Well… for there are plenty of other goodies on offer.
