If you think Steam's 90% discount on Resident Evil 3 is good, Fanatical's just beaten it

The brilliant RE2 and RE4 remakes seem to get endless praise, but the 2020 Resident Evil 3 remake doesn't get enough love. Sure, those two entries have Leon in the pilot's seat, and they're also classics, but I think the third game is just as good. The Resident Evil 3 remake may remove some vital parts of the original, but it's still a solid retelling of Jill Valentine's survival in Raccoon City, and right now, Fanatical has the game even cheaper than the current Steam sale, giving you the perfect excuse to finally try it.

Resident Evil 3 puts you into the hard-worn shoes of S.T.A.R.S officer Jill Valentine, as well as the mercenary Carlos Oliveira, after the former is attacked by the brutal Nemesis, a bioweapon developed by the Umbrella Corporation. If you're unfamiliar with Resident Evil, anything Umbrella is going to be bad. As expected, you're going to need to fight your way through raging hordes of infected zombies and evade Nemesis's relentless pursuit.

Similar to the RE2 remake, you'll control Jill with a third-person perspective - gone are the days of frustrating tank controls, we're all action-movement now, baby. A variety of puzzles will keep you occupied between dodging zombies and surviving near-death situations, while the story of Raccoon City's outbreak continues at mostly the same time as the previous entry.

Because it was coming off the back of the excellent Resident Evil 2 remake and it didn't have some of the features found in the original, our Resident Evil 3 review is a little less positive, giving it a 7/10 score with Jordan saying "Capcom's latest is still one of the better entries to the series, but isn't quite sure if it wants to be po-faced and terrifying or a campy, blockbuster shooter." Admittedly, it's a Resi game, so it delivers the solid horror-action hybrid you'd expect of its pedigree, and if you were going in expecting that, you'll have a good time. Isn't that what matters most?

Currently, a Steam discount gives newcomers and RE fans alike the chance to score the game at 90% off. How unlucky for them that you can now get the Resident Evil 3 remake for just $3.60 / £3.15 at Fanatical, making it slightly cheaper than Valve's marketplace at 91% off. Of course, that's just 1% extra, but it's still a lower price, so if you were going to buy it anyway, why not save some cents?

Honestly, I've been going back to Resident Evil games recently, and it's been a blast to play them all again after Requiem. Resident Evil 3 is a lot better than I remembered, so you're in for a great time - especially if you never played the original.
