Minecraft adds in two new items commemorating iconic moments from the movie

As if people need a reminder that the enormously successful Minecraft Movie exists, Mojang has just released two new free items into Minecraft itself that commemorate two standout moments from the film. If you're a fan of the bestest boy there ever was, Dennis the pale wolf, or the lava chicken song is your highlight of its soundtrack, then these new items are certainly for you.

Minecraft is still reveling in the game-changing Vibrant Visuals upgrade and the Chase the Skies drop, which have shored up its already solid place on our best sandbox games list. However, it's putting its focus back on the hugely popular Minecraft Movie as part of a small new update. While this is nowhere near as transformative as the updates we saw last week, it does give you a new decorative item and a new music disc that will have you reminiscing about Jack Black and co.'s adventures in the movie.

The decorative item is a portrait painting of Dennis, which was stealthily added to Bedrock a few days ago but is now officially available in Java too. If you've ever wanted to build a shrine to Steve's canine companion, now you can. With his red collar on show, and a cute little tongue poking out of his mouth, this is the perfect way to spruce up your base.

The second item added in this new update is a lava chicken music disc that you can play on your base's jukebox. This contains a loop of several retro-sounding renditions of the lava chicken song, each with a slightly different style. Sadly, these are just instrumentals and don't contain any Jack Black vocals, but what's stopping you and your pals belting it out through your headsets? Mojang hints that the way to obtain the lava chicken disc is to simply find and defeat a chicken jockey.

It's worth noting that while the Dennis portrait is available from today on both versions of Minecraft, the lava chicken soundtrack is only out on Java at the moment. Mojang says it'll arrive "soon" on Bedrock.
