It's been almost a year since feudal Japan RPG Sengoku Dynasty gave its combat a major upgrade, and now your skills are about to be put to the ultimate test. This fusion of lifestyle sim, city builder, and survival game is all about growing your dynasty, and that process comes with increasingly deadly threats as your size and notoriety rises. The Bushido update is out now, introducing large-scale town raids along with new features such as special structures and more versatile headwear.
Sengoku Dynasty update 1.1, Bushido, adds a wide range of clothes, decorations, map encounters, and other features to the world, but its central inclusion are raids. Consequence can really help the best RPGs to shine, and this new addition is designed to reflect the extra risks that come with success. As your dynasty grows, it'll naturally start to attract the attention of nearby troublemakers. Bigger buildings and more valuables stored within them will spread whispers, and eventually eager sorts will come looking to collect.
Hopefully, you'll already have invested time into ensuring that your towns are well protected. Building strong walls and fortifications, and establishing guard posts manned by skilled warriors, equipped with high-quality weaponry, will help to keep your people and goods safe. You can also minimize the risk of bandit attacks through proactive measures; invest time in hunting down roaming foes and clearing out enemy camps, and there will be fewer threats remaining to return the favor.
Fortunately, you'll be given one day of notice before a full-scale raid begins. Typically, this will begin with the appearance of an 'enforcer,' who might be looking for 'protection fees' to ensure your safety. Reject their offer, or wait too long, and you'll hear the bell ring as attackers flood in. At this point, you'll likely wait to draw steel and join the fray alongside your guardsmen. The raiders will try to destroy your defenses and grab your valuables, fleeing once they decide they've claimed enough.
If that all sounds too stressful, don't fear, as you can disable raids entirely through the game settings menu if they're not to your taste. There's still more to be found in the Bushido update, after all. Clearing enemy camps now gives you the ability to start a special project to remove their presence entirely, opening up the real estate for you to use. There's a new 'Way of the Leader' perk that opens up additional building options, including various bridges.
