PUBG introduces a classic game mode for April Fools' Day

Prop Hunt is coming to PUBG. The battle royale has never been shy of leaning into the silly business of April Fools Day - it has, in the past, employed huge chickens, 8-bit recreations, and even D&D-style classes to add an injection of fun into what is usually a very serious affair indeed.

This April Fools' Day, PUBG is leaning on a classic. For those not in the know, Prop Hunt is a game mode much like hide-and-seek, with a handful of players being assigned to find the others. The trick here is that those assigned to hiding can transform into random inanimate objects in an attempt to blend in with the environment.

If any of you have seen a game of Prop Hunt in, say, Call of Duty, you'll know that matches usually consist of the hunters running around aimlessly, blasting bits of pottery and whatnot in the hopes they wing a disguised player. PUBG looks to change this up a little by adding drawbacks to hunters missing their shots - their HP will be reduced with every round that goes astray, making it less of a game of chance. I like it.

The runners (the hiders? The props?) have a few tricks up their sleeve to stay alive, other than their ability to blend. They have decoys, can change their disguise, and even launch stun grenades to delay their pursuers. If you're discovered, it shouldn't be too difficult to flee the scene and change your disguise before the blinding flash has subsided.

PUBG Prop Hunt is available right now in the Arcade section, and will run for the next week, ending on Saturday, 7 April. It takes place on multiple maps, including Rondo, Vikendi, and Miramar, so get in while you can. I'd say that you'll see me there, but you won't, because I'll be disguised as a humble deck chair - or will I?
