In all my hours of playing Marvel Rivals, I haven't been part of many successful surrender votes. If someone on your team puts one forward, every single player in your squad needs to agree to it for it to take effect, and that just doesn't happen often. I'd argue this is a good thing, because it forces you to see a game through to its bitter end, and this can often result in a victory if you counter the enemy correctly. Going forward, however, Netease Games is changing how surrendering works in the hero shooter, and I'm not sure what to make of it.

Starting soon, a successful Marvel Rivals surrender is going to require fewer votes from your team. If you're in a full squad of six, only five of your teammates need to agree to give up for the match to end. If someone leaves and you're stuck with five (or even four) players, you can still pass the vote without a full consensus. If you're unlucky enough to go down to two or three players, though, everyone left will need to vote for the surrender for it to happen.

I'm struggling to decide if this is good or not. On the one hand, if you're not getting anywhere in a match and most of your team agrees, lowering the voting requirement should stop you from getting stuck with one stubborn player refusing to end it. On the other, I can see people giving up much sooner in competitive play, even when they might still have a chance of clawing back a win. Rivals is easily one of the best multiplayer games around right now, so I hope this change isn't too disruptive.

This is where Rivals' lack of an Overwatch-style role queue comes into play, however. The fact that you can swap between tank, healer, and DPS at any point during the match means you can massively switch up strategies on the fly, making competitive matches much more fluid. So even with these surrender changes, players will hopefully more actively switch roles and heroes to counteract the enemy team instead.

As for the rest of the imminent patch, Netease Games is fixing some issues with a handful of heroes. Winter Soldier, Magneto, Mister Fantastic, Iron Fist, and Doctor Strange all have a few minor glitches that are spoiling their abilities, but no longer.

The new Marvel Rivals patch is set to drop on Thursday June 26, and it'll include these surrender changes.
