The Medium is just $3 in this new Humble Bundle, so don't miss your chance to grab this bargain
Are you fed up with playing manly dudes all the time? Yes, you know what I'm talking about; videogames can be quite testosterone-heavy sometimes. Fortunately, the game landscape is not what it used to be in terms of gender representation, and there are a lot of games led by interesting female characters. As March is the month in which International Women's Day takes place, it is fitting that Humble Bundle has just launched its new Heroines bundle, giving you six games, including The Medium, which star female protagonists at a fraction of the usual cost (no Lara Croft though - but she'll forever be my queen).
The Medium is the star attraction here. Receiving a mixed reception at launch, this beautiful psychological horror game has always been a bit misunderstood. It's not trying to be a traditional survival horror game packed with combat and jump scares. Instead, it leans fully into atmosphere, storytelling, and a genuinely fascinating dual-reality mechanic that lets you explore the physical and spirit worlds simultaneously.
You play as Marianne, a medium navigating trauma, memory, and identity through an abandoned resort that feels soaked in unease. The environments are dripping with eeriness, decaying spaces that feel like they're holding onto something. Not to mention the soundtrack co-composed by Akira Yamaoka, which brings a haunting, melancholic weight that horror fans will instantly recognise.

But the real magic is in how the game handles its two worlds. Watching them unfold side by side, puzzles overlapping, realities bleeding into each other, creates this strange, dreamlike tension. Even if you have any reservations, the whole bundle is just $18 / £16.18, which works out to $3 / £2.70 per game, and The Medium is easily worth that.
In our The Medium review, Jordan said that the game had "a constant, simmering tension for the duration of the story" and praised its "Good storytelling and a palpable atmosphere." Though he did have some issues with pacing, he also praised its "deeply disturbing soundscape." I can't help but agree with him.
Beyond The Medium, the bundle brings together a selection of female-led experiences that step away from the usual hypermasculine clichés and offer something a bit richer, stranger, and more emotionally textured:
- Sorry We're Closed
- Eastward
- ANNO: Mutationem
- Cabernet
- Ereban: Shadow Legacy
The Humble Heroines Bundle is only available until Wednesday, April 8. After this point, there's no way of telling how long you'll have to wait until these games next get a discount this steep.
It's also good to know that this bundle supports the Girls Make Games Scholarship Fund, helping more young women break into game development. So you're not just picking up a bargain, you're nudging the industry in a better direction too.
So, if you've been in the mood for something a little different, with mood, mystery, and a bit of soulfulness, this might be one of the easiest recommendations going right now.
