Battlefield Hardline delisted and servers taken offline, but PC players are okay for now

Battlefield Hardline is the black sheep of the longrunning series. Instead of focusing on huge wars, the 2016 FPS game instead casts you as a police officer fighting the war on crime in downtown Miami. While this setting is unusual for a Battlefield game, the 'Levolution' tech from Battlefield 4 was implemented well for destructible city environments, and the multiplayer was praised as a highlight. Unfortunately, it's this multiplayer component that's being removed.

The Battlefield Comms social media account published an article saying that Battlefield Hardline will be removed from the digital storefronts on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 next month. If you want some online action, you'll only have a month to do so, as the servers will be taken offline in June.

However, the more sensible option may be to buy it on PC if possible, as it is exempt from both the delisting and removal of servers. However, the wording of the post doesn't fill me with confidence that the PC version of the game will be available for much longer.

"Today's update does not impact PC," it reads. "Battlefield Hardline on PC will remain available, including online services." So you could go and spend $39.99 / £34.99 on a game that could have its online capabilities removed in a matter of months, or you could grab the latest instalment, Battlefield 6, for $41.99 / £35.99 during the Steam Spring Sale. A word of warning: this promotion ends on March 26, so you'll have to act fast to snap it up.

Battlefield Comms tweet announcing the delisting of Battlefield Hardline servers

Battlefield fans are confused by the decision to delist Hardline, especially seeing as it will remain on Steam for the time being. That suggests that it isn't a licensing issue, which has seen numerous games delisted in recent years. Perhaps it's something to do with the upkeep of console servers which is different to those on PC? Whatever the reason, it's a blow for preservation that console players will be restricted to the game's single-player mode despite already owning the game.

Battlefield Hardline will be delisted from Xbox One and PlayStation 4 storefronts on Friday, May 22, 2026. Online services on these platforms will end on Monday, June 22, 2026.

To rub salt in the wound, this news comes less than a week after Battlefield celebrated Hardline's 11th anniversary on social media, asking players for their favorite memories of the game. Who knows if it will be playable anywhere by the time its 12th anniversary rolls around?
