If you crave Titanfall 3, 1047 Games is building a new movement shooter for you, and playtest sign-ups are live

Sometimes I sit staring at my game library and wish for Titanfall 3, and I know I'm not alone. There's been nothing in the years since Titanfall 2 that quite captures the magic of Respawn's sublime FPS games, and even Apex Legends puts safety rails on the movement tech that made it so special. Splitgate developer 1047 Games is ready to take up the mantle, however, confirming that it's currently developing a game inspired by both the Respawn classics and fellow wall-running multiplayer games like Call of Duty Black Ops 3.

After revealing the details for Splitgate: Arena Reloaded Season 2, which kicks off this Friday, March 27, 1047 Games CEO Ian Proulx teases that the team's next project is in the works. "Obviously Splitgate is the focus," he emphasizes, "but we have always had the dream to be a multi-game studio. Obviously I love Splitgate, it's genuinely my favorite game of all time, and we're not shy about where we took inspiration from there, with Halo and Portal being two of my all-time favorites."

Proulx smiles, "There are other games and other dream games that we love. I'm not here to talk too much about that today, but I want to give the community a heads up: We've had a small section of the team start working on a new game in addition to Splitgate. What I will say is that it is a movement shooter, and if you're a fan of games like Titanfall or Black Ops 3, we would love to hear from you. We're going to take sign-ups so we can start playtesting soon."

You can listen to Proulx's comments in full from the 6:24 mark in the video above. Short of Respawn giving us Titanfall 3, 1047 is one of the teams I'd personally trust most to get the feel of a Titanfall-style movement shooter right. The way you can build momentum in Splitgate is every bit as satisfying as the heady days of Titanfall 2 multiplayer. Splitgate's portals can often be a little too overwhelming for the average player, but perhaps the move to wall-running action could prove the happy middle ground we need.

There will naturally be questions about 1047's capacity to develop a second game. Between Proulx's much-maligned "make FPS great again" hat, divisive changes from the first game, and a backlash over the sequel's microtransaction pricing at launch, Splitgate 2 struggled to find a consistent audience. The developer eventually took it back to beta and relaunched it under the Arena Reloaded branding, but not before the studio faced layoffs.

Two statements from Splitgate 2 dev 1047 Games. The first, nine months ago: "Today we parted ways with a small group of valued 1047 Games team members. We

At the time, Proulx and fellow co-founder Nicholas Bagamian announced they had "opted not to take salaries" while the Splitgate redesign was underway. Seeing the studio announcing a second simultaneous project just nine months later is therefore quite a surprise. Responding to the announcement, the studio writes, "As we mentioned in the video we are not abandoning Splitgate. We have always dreamed of being a multi-game studio and are very fortunate to be able to work on more than one game." If you want to help with the testing process under NDA, you can sign up to become a playtester.

It's good to hear Proulx and 1047 get out in front of this news, as it should at least reassure players' minds that Splitgate will continue to keep going for the time being. I suspect they'll be hoping this new movement shooter proves to be the silver bullet that has so far eluded them, and I for one feel the same way. Not only would I be overjoyed to have some fresh action in the Titanfall mold, but it'd also help put my mind at ease that Splitgate, which remains my favorite competitive FPS in 2026, isn't going to disappear any time soon.
