To celebrate Resident Evil Requiem, Fanatical's latest sale drops the series to its lowest prices yet - including the newest horror game

It's bizarre how much of a comeback the Resident Evil series has had in the last nine years. After 2012's Resident Evil 6 alienated most of the fanbase, the excellently scary RE7 and Village not only brought back old fans, but also welcomed newcomers into the nightmare, bringing back the classic elements for a modern generation. It also brought us to a fresh blend of screams, terror, and the right amount of action in Resident Evil Requiem, one of the best horror games I've been (un)fortunate enough to play, and to celebrate. Fanatical has an infected boatload of entries on sale right now, including Requiem - and they're all cheaper than ever.

It's worth noting that, while not every Resident Evil game is here, pretty much all of them are - and there's enough to get you the scope of the lore before (or after) you dive into Resident Evil Requiem. From the Resident Evil HD Remaster to the latest entry in the series, every game is cheaper than ever, and if you're looking to scare yourself silly, well, here you go.

Resident Evil 0 sets the stage as a prequel for the first game, and in all honesty, I haven't played it - sorry. It's currently sitting at a 76% rating on Steam, but if you want the full package, it's hugely discounted right now. Personally, I'd start with Resident Evil 2 Remake, which I have played, and is a brilliant entry point, as you meet fresh-faced Leon Kennedy as he first joins the Raccoon City Police Department, and comes face-to-face with the hordes of infected you've come to know and want to shoot. The stalking by Mr. X is as frightening as they come, and the dual narrative with Claire Redfield is just absolutely fantastic, especially with the enhanced visuals and some minor plot changes that come full circle with later entries (looks at Requiem).

Next, you have the Resident Evil 3 Remake, which does a great job at being a shorter experience. Nemesis is as dangerous as ever, and as Jill Valentine, you'll need to find a cure for the outbreak and hopefully escape Raccoon City. Admittedly, some of the content from the original 1999 game has been cut here, but it's still a solid entry, which then leads you onto the fantastic Resident Evil 4 Remake.

There's not much I can add when it comes to a rebuilt version of one of the most iconic horror games ever made. As Ed states in our Resident Evil 4 Remake review, it "improves on the visuals, mechanics, and moment-to-moment experience of one of the best games ever made." Leon's back in this one, and honestly, you should go in blind. It's utterly amazing and stands as one of the series' greats. You can also get a deal on the original 2005 version if you want to see how much has changed in two decades.

Then there's Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 on sale, which, if you prefer the action and chaotic side of the series, you should enjoy. Then, you've got the absolutely incredible RE7 and Village - you can get a discount on the base games or the DLC-included versions - and then you have the spin-offs like Revelations and Revelations 2.

Finally, Requiem, which also has a tasty discount, and, as someone who has recently finished it, it is worth every penny - trust me. All of the Resident Evil games are up to 79% off right now at Fanatical, giving you the perfect excuse to return to Raccoon City or, well, anywhere else the virus has infected in the world. There's… a lot of zombies to kill.

Personally, I'd opt for every mainline game, including Requiem - and you don't need to do the original RE4, as Requiem ties more into the remake version. However, most of these stories are self-contained, so even if you decide to get RE2, RE5, and then Requiem, like the little zombie-killing devil you are, you'll still have a good time. You might get weird looks for saying you did that, but you do you.

Hopefully, you'll enjoy a great marathon of these iconic horror games, and if you haven't played them before, you're in for a scintillating time. I'm somewhat jealous that you'll get to experience these gems with a fresh set of eyes - sadly, my aging, crusty brain can't forget how memorable each of these is. Even RE5. And yes, I am a fan of even the worst entries in the series.
