Cyberpunk 2077 2.3 update gets delayed just three days out from launch

We all thought we'd already seen the final major update for Cyberpunk 2077. Version 2.2 was meant to be the cherry on top of CD Projekt Red's cake, but now the studio's trying to flambé the cherry, drizzle over some jus, and put some gold leaf on it. The surprise Cyberpunk 2077 2.3 update was set to drop later this week, and even though its contents are a mystery, it's set to be a big one. However, just three days out from launch, CDPR has announced that 2.3 has been delayed, with no word on when it will finally arrive.

Despite its infamously awful launch, Cyberpunk 2077's redemption arc has more than earned it a spot on our best RPGs list. However, with a sequel in development, CDPR said it would be moving on from 2077, and last December's 2.2 update was thought to be its swansong. However, a couple of weeks back, the developer revealed an actual final update, 2.3, would be arriving this week. I say that, there's every chance that it'll be lured back for a 2.4 in the future… CDPR has been super secretive about what's actually in this patch, but whatever it is, it's seemingly big and intricate enough to warrant a delay.

In a post on X, CDPR says that it "initially hoped to put Update 2.3 in your hands on June 26. However, we'll need some more time to make sure we're happy with it - we're aiming for a scope similar to Update 2.2. We'll update you further as soon as we can! We appreciate your patience!"

As you'll notice, there's no mention of exactly how long this delay will be. No new release date, no launch window, nada. That's quite a concern, given that 2.3 was meant to drop in just three days from the time of writing.

However, with CDPR having worked so hard over the last few years to turn Cyberpunk 2077's fortunes around and give it a strong reputation that'll serve its sequel well, a final blunder or rushed update could taint all that. Getting it right is of the utmost importance - especially given that most fans thought they'd seen 2077's final update already.

Hearing that it will be of a similar scope to update 2.2 is interesting, though. 2.2 expanded the game's car customization system, allowing you to snapshot and save designs from any car you drove past while cruising around Night City. Several new car models were also added to both the base game and the Phantom Liberty DLC, as was the option to get Johnny Silverhand riding shotgun with you. Loads of new character customization options and photo mode improvements were thrown in, too. That should help give you an idea of the level of update 2.3 is, so it's safe to assume that there's at least one big system overhaul on the way.
