An unannounced Hunter The Reckoning game has seemingly leaked, courtesy of Robocop Rogue City

A Robocop: Rogue City update that lasted just 31 minutes on Steam before it was reversed appears to have briefly replaced the entire game with another one. The build that appeared in its place, titled "Hunter," looks to be a very early build of a Hunter: The Reckoning game. Users that were reportedly able to download this before it was removed have shared images of a title screen bearing that name, along with some early locations of a quest where the player is gathering information about a bar shootout.

If you're as old as I am, you might remember the 2002 hack-and-slash game Hunter: The Reckoning and its two sequels, which came from High Voltage Software. Given the recent push for new World of Darkness games, and the fact that both Vampire and Werewolf are already accounted for, a new entry in the Hunter series would seem like the logical next conclusion. I just didn't expect it to show up in the place of another game. The culprit in question is Teyon's Robocop: Rogue City, which notably shares a publisher (Nacon) with the 2022 Werewolf game, The Apocalypse Earthblood.

As SteamDB's tracking history for Robocop: Rogue City shows, a Friday March 6 update removed seemingly the entire game, including its main executable file. In its place, an entirely different build appeared, with one file named "Hunter - Win64 - Shipping.exe" our best clue as to what was inside.

Robocop Rogue City seemingly replaced by unannounced 'Hunter' game on Steam.

The change was highlighted by X user 'Silent,' and another user named 'Edness' has responded with what they claim are screenshots from the build that was temporarily deployed in place of Robocop. These show a title screen bearing the Hunter: The Reckoning name, along with what appears to be first-person footage of a player outside a Sheriff's office.

The quest shown in these is tasking the player with gathering information about "the Sunshine bar shootout." The "diner's counterman" and a priest are listed as key witnesses to speak to, along with a general investigation of the bar itself. There's currently no indication whether this is an in-development but as-yet unannounced project, or whether it might simply be an old build of a game that will never see the light of day.

X users 'Silent' and 'Edness' share reported images of a game that appears to be an unannounced Hunter: The Reckoning.

This isn't the first hint we've had that a new Hunter game could be on the way, however. Last year, White Wolf's at-the-time brand marketing manager, Jason Carl, told us some of the company's other games, such as Hunter: The Reckoning and Mage: The Ascension could get "the Bloodlines 2 treatment" and make a return.

During that interview, Carl even stated, "It's not just Hunter and Werewolf," before suggesting other projects such as The Dark Ages and Changeling that White Wolf was considering. At the time I didn't read too much into that phrasing, but given that we already got (the rather poorly received) Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood in 2022, perhaps it was a clue towards what else was at the top of the studio's list.

The whole situation is incredibly bizarre, and the quick turnaround on removing the entire thing and putting the previous Robocop build back in its place suggests it was very much an accident. If nothing else, it's good that you can play Rogue City as intended once more, because we're quite fond of it here at PCGamesN.

I have reached out to Nacon for comment, and will update this story with any response. After the rather disappointing Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 and the aforementioned Werewolf revival, I'd at least be interested to see someone else take a shot at bringing some new digital life into the World of Darkness.
