That's a saving of $113.43 over the new AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, and the 7800X3D still offers many of the same features as the new chip, with fantastic performance. That's because it's still a better CPU for gaming than most other chips available. Its eight mighty Zen 4 cores have plenty of power for gaming, and that extra cache keeps them regularly fed with data, massively reducing the need for the chip to reach for your PC's system memory.

What's more, unlike 12-core X3D CPUs, such as the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and 7900X3D, all eight of its cores can directly access this extra cache, whereas only six of the cores on the 12-core chips have this ability, meaning this eight-core chip is actually better for gaming.

There are a few downsides to opting for this chip over its successor, as you can see in our AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D review. The new chip gives you an extra 200MHz of clock speed, and its cores are based on the newer Zen 5 architecture.
