All Resident Evil Requiem bosses and how to beat them

What are all the RE Requiem bosses? Capcom's long-running survival horror franchise has delivered some of the best bosses in gaming, and RE9 continues that tradition. Whether you're stuck on a particularly challenging encounter or you're just curious about what lies in store for Leon and Grace, this guide includes every boss and how to beat them.

There are eight bosses in Resident Evil Requiem, and each one requires a different approach. Some encounters are more like puzzles than traditional horror game fights, while others can only be won with big guns and fast reflexes. Below you'll find a complete list of bosses along with strategies to beat each one, including how to skip certain boss fights altogether. Major spoilers ahead.

Here are all the bosses in RE Requiem:

  • The Girl
  • Chunk
  • Titan Spinner
  • Tyrant T-501
  • Super Tyrant (T-501)
  • Plant 43
  • The Commander
  • Victor (Mutated)

The Girl

Grace encounters The Girl at various points throughout the Rhodes Hill clinic, but it's only once you reach the Water Treatment Plant that it's possible to defeat her. In the first two encounters, she is an obstacle to avoid, particularly while getting the Requiem fuse and forklift key. Through these encounters, it becomes apparent that The Girl has a mortal weakness to light that you can exploit in your final confrontation.

This boss fight kicks off once you descend to the lower level of the Water Treatment Plant to redistribute the power to the hatch controls. The Girl patrols this area, so be prepared to encounter her. The distribution units are labeled as objective on the map, but you can find them in Storage, Sedimentation, and Chemical Treatment.

The Girl is programmed to find you at various points, so while we recommend a stealthy approach to start, be ready to sprint and evade. You can interact with the floodlights dotted around the area to switch them on and temporarily stun her. These lights only stay on for around 15 seconds, and can't be reused, so make sure you have a viable escape route before you activate them.

Start with the distribution unit in Storage, located next to a stack of barrels. The Girl knocks them over as you approach, so switch on the nearby floodlight and maneuver around her to reach the unit while she's stunned.

Next, head to the Control Room and continue past the distribution unit into the Filing Room. Pick up the Crank Lever on the shelf, and wait for The Girl to follow you inside before you loop around and leave. Interact with the unit in the Control Room to use the Crank Lever.

The final distribution unit in Chemical Treatment is jammed and requires you to press and hold it for ten seconds to activate it. Lure The Girl over to the floodlight on the other side of the window, then take the path on the right to maneuver around her while she's stunned. This gives you enough time to activate the unit in Chemical Treatment before she can recover.

Once all distribution units are online, take the elevator to return to the upper level. The Girl is in pursuit, so use the floodlight to stun her for a final time and activate the hatch switch. You'll be prompted to shoot at her, but don't waste your ammo - just remain at a distance and wait for the sunlight to do its job.

Chunk

Chunk is the foul-mouthed 'baby' that appears in the Rhodes Hill Clinic hallways and attic. You can defeat him early in Grace's section by sneaking up behind him and using three hemolytic injectors, which you can craft after you solve the Requiem blood analyzer puzzle. While it can be difficult to catch him unawares, we recommend this method. Not only will this make it easier to wrap the Quartz puzzle, but it'll also help you conserve ammo after you switch to Leon.

If you don't use this method, Leon fights Chunk in the Attic instead. It's a traditional Resident Evil boss fight, featuring a small boss room with interwoven paths. To begin, approach Chunk and pick up the shotgun on the floor, then take aim at his head and belly. You can pick up extra shotgun shells in various corners of the attic.

Interact with the yellow ladders overhanging the area to reach the upper level. Wait for Chunk to try to follow, then shoot at his head and hands until he falls back to the lower level. He's temporarily stunned at this point, so drop back down and sprint to his head to initiate a finisher for extra damage. Once Chunk starts to spew blood from the holes in his body, he's technically already beaten, so sit back and wait for him to explode.

Titan Spinner

Arachnophobes beware. This boss fight kicks off shortly after Leon arrives in Raccoon City. You won't be able to do any significant damage to the Titan Spinner right away, so focus on running and evading until you reach the main boss room at the top of the building. From here, it's just a case of inflicting enough damage to the Titan Spinner until it dies - note the orange cluster on its butt, which serves as its weak point.

The boss room's structure isn't too dissimilar to the Chunk fight. Use the ladders to reach the upper level to put some space between you and the Titan Spinner, but be prepared for it to follow. Explosive canisters are dotted around the battlefield, which can temporarily stun it and leave its weak point on full display. They don't respawn, so we only recommend using them when you can guarantee a direct hit.

The most frustrating element of this fight is the clusters of small spiders that occasionally appear. Use an SMG or grenades to clear them quickly - if they swarm you, they can slow you down enough for the Titan Spinner to land a successful hit.

Occasionally, the Titan Spinner uses the webs on the walls to escape and reposition. You can track its movements by looking for its shadow on the walls above. It often climbs down the web in the corner when you use the ladder opposite, giving you a small window to hit its weak point with a sniper rifle. Simply hit it enough, and you'll squash this oversized bug.

Tyrant T-501 (Mr. X)

Welcome home, Mr. X! RE2 fans will already know there's no point spending ammo here. When Tyrant T-501 bursts through the wall, turn back the way you came, head through the hole in the wall, and turn right. Mr. X punches through the wall before you can reach the door at the end of this small corridor, so be prepared to loop back around, wait for him to follow, then proceed through the new hole he left to leave this room.

Proceed up the collapsed staircase and through the corridor ahead until a steel beam bursts through the wall. Making contact with it triggers instant death, so quick-turn and sprint back the way you came, then duck into the side room on the left.

Mr. X bursts through the wall again, but you should know what to do by now. Use the rubble in the middle of the room to give him the run-around and enter the hole that he left. Continue past the bear statue to finally escape Tyrant T-501.

Super Tyrant (T-501)

It wouldn't be a true throwback to Mr. X without his transformation into the Super Tyrant. Just like in RE2 Remake, the beating heart at the center of his chest is his weak point. Handguns aren't effective here, so instead, use the shotgun and sniper rifle to ensure you're dealing significant damage with every hit.

The boss arena is completely open, so don't bother trying to look for a place to hide. Instead, it's time to stand your ground and put that Requiem parry to good use. Specifically, you can parry the Super Tyrant's mutated arm attacks. You'll be doing this a lot, so don't forget to sharpen Leon's hatchet before the Super Tyrant recovers. Purchase all of Leon's body armor upgrades from the storage box if you're prone to missing parry timings.

Watch out for when the Super Tyrant leaps onto a car. The short pause before he attacks is the perfect opportunity to land a few direct shots at his heart, and dealing enough damage knocks him off his perch and inflicts a temporary stun. You have a very short window to inflict a finisher before he recovers - commit to it if you're at close range, or use this time to heal, reload, or reposition. If you don't reach the damage threshold to stun him, get ready to dodge his leap attack.

The Super Tyrant also likes to throw cars around, especially if you prefer to remain at a distance, so sprint to either side as soon as he starts to pick one up. Med injectors and ammo are dotted around the area if one hits you, but be careful not to get cornered while picking them up.

Plant 43

The Plant 43 boss fight begins as you cross the bridge covered in massive vines that attack as you approach. Hit the attached flower buds with your sniper rifle as soon as they unfurl to take them out before they swipe at you, but be prepared for them to reappear as you progress over the bridge.

Once you drop down to the lower ledge, the real fight begins. Plant 43 has two main attacks: striking out with the two vines on either side of its body and lunging forward with its maw. You have limited room to move here, but you can still reliably avoid these attacks by continuously sprinting from side to side.

Plant 43's weak point is the flower in its maw, which opens and closes throughout the fight. Don't bother to attack it while it's closed; instead, look out for opportunities to hit it between attacks. There's very limited time to line up a shot here, so we recommend an SMG for a spray-and-pray approach. You can also use a shotgun, at a pinch.

If you're low on ammo going into this fight, there are two destructible boxes containing supplies on the right - just be careful not to take unnecessary damage while breaking them open. Once you deal enough damage, Plant 43 vomits and thrashes around, dislodging a truck filled with explosive canisters directly opposite Leon's position. Shoot at them to scorch this nasty weed.

The Commander

The Commander may look like RE2's Hunk, but this boss fight is very similar to Leon's knife fight with Krauser in RE4. In the initial phase, we're getting up close and personal with melee weapons, so successful parries are integral here. Whenever Leon pushes him away with his foot, you can sneak in a hit with your gun, but for the most part, you'll be dealing blows with your hatchet.

The second phase of this fight begins once the Commander uses a flash grenade and bursts a nearby pipe. You have very low visibility from this point onwards, so wait for the Commander to come to you and try to get a quick hit in. A QTE triggers any time he grabs you; start button-mashing to break his hold and avoid instant death.

It can be difficult to line up a successful shot on the Commander in this phase, especially with high-precision weapons. To avoid wasting ammo and taking unnecessary damage, we recommend relying on your hatchet for the duration of this fight. Make sure it's fully upgraded before going in, and remember to sharpen it whenever you get a breather.

Victor (Mutated)

Requiem's final boss is Dr. Victor Gideon, mutated by the Nemesis virus. This is the toughest fight in RE9, so make sure your weapons and armor are fully upgraded, you're stocked up on ammo, and your hatchet is sharpened ahead of time. This boss fight is where Requiem really shines, offering the precision and damage necessary to land consistent hits.

Ideally, you want to keep Victor at a distance at all times. You can parry his melee attacks at close range, but forcing space between you both gives you some time to hit him as he strides towards you. Like the Super Tyrant and Titan Spinner, you can inflict a temporary stun by dealing enough damage to Victor in a short amount of time.

Whenever Victor leaps onto a platform and begins charging purple energy, you've got a ten-second window to unload as much firepower on him as possible. Your time is up when a purple light starts to travel from his position - sprint out of the way before it reaches you, to avoid taking damage. Victor follows this up with a leap attack that triggers a huge AoE explosion, so stay on the move until the purple energy dissipates altogether.

The second phase of this fight kicks off after a short cutscene. Victor's colossal form might look intimidating, but it's a cakewalk compared to the previous phase. Rather than firing at him indiscriminately, pop the nodules that appear on his body. An SMG does the trick here, but you can also use grenades to clear large clusters quickly.

Victor can still attack with his mutated limbs in this phase, but you can parry every melee attack he throws at you. He also has a grab attack that you can avoid entirely simply by remaining out of his reach. When he grabs you out of nowhere, don't panic - this is a scripted sequence. Follow the QTE prompts to take Victor down once and for all.

Congratulations, you've beaten all the RE Requiem bosses! After you've rolled credits, it's time to hop into RE9 new game plus to earn rewards from Requiem unlockables. Check out all the Mr. Raccoon locations to pick up any you might have missed on your first playthrough.
