Marathon roadmap - all updates coming in 2026

What is the Marathon roadmap? It's a hard life being a Runner. You drop in, a glint in your eye; the allure of shiny loot is too hard to resist. You gobble up the goods, head for extraction, and, if you're fortunate enough not to get blasted, get out. After repeating the cycle for a while, though, the sheen dulls, and the itch for a new challenge takes hold. Fortunately, Bungie's well aware that it needs to keep things fresh, and there's going to be plenty of new content throughout 2026 to maintain Marathon's lustre.

The Marathon roadmap for the year ahead, while incomplete, is already filled to the brim with additions. The FPS game's seasons are expected to roll around every three months, each bringing its own theme and a full server wipe. With them comes new gameplay modifiers, narrative beats, and more. Below, we'll take you through all of the confirmed Marathon content so far, so you know what to expect as time goes on.

Here's what's coming to Marathon in 2026:

Marathon Season 1

Marathon Season 1, Death is the First Step, runs from March 5, 2026 (launch) until June 2026. The season's story will introduce Marathon's myriad factions as a proxy war for power begins between them. You'll also find out what happened to the 30,000 souls lost in the New Cascadia Colony.

Marathon's fourth map, Cryo Archive, is ostensibly tied to community progression in a similar vein to Arc Raiders' Stella Montis. Bungie says this end-game zone will feature solvable security puzzles, unsealable frozen vaults, and "an entity even the UESC fears."

Season 1 will also introduce Marathon's ranked queue, which is set to land in the second half of March.

The Marathon launch and Season 1 content includes:

• Complete faction and contract progression.
• All six factions.
• All six launch Runner shells.
• Four zones (Outpost will unlock a day after launch, Cryo Archive unlocks later once certain community criteria is met).
• 28 weapons, plus modes, implants, cores, and more.
• Earnable cosmetics, achievements, and narrative beats via the Codex.
• Quality-of-life improvements, balance tuning, new implants, a new weapon, and more.

Marathon Season 2

Marathon Season 2, Nightfall, is expected to run from June 2026 until August 2026. The UESC isn't happy about all of the rifling around you'll have been doing in Season 1, and is set to step up its security protocols to prevent further meddling.

The Marathon Season 2 content includes:

• Nighttime version of Dire Marsh.
• New Runner shell.
• New weapons, mods, cores, contracts, and more.
• New Cradle system, which is "designed to give you more autonomy over your Runner shell's statistical strengths and weaknesses."
