The Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake has been confirmed, and gaming's worst-kept secret is finally real

Dubbed the worst-kept secret in games, the long-rumored Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake is now seemingly all but confirmed. Thanks to a little bit of wordplay (oh, and some concept art with a rather large logo), it appears that we're officially heading back to the West Indies to play our part in the Golden Age of Piracy.

The news of the Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake dropped out of the blue today. "Speculation around Assassin's Creed is not new, but it's worth repeating: "Nothing is true. Everything is permitted," said Jean Guesdon, the recently appointed Head of Content for the whole franchise, in a new Assassin's Creed blog post that's well worth a read. "Well, except in this case, some whispers have a little more wind in their sails. Keep your spyglass on the horizon," he added, dropping concept art (with a logo confirming the remake's name) before trailing off to write a little about the upcoming live-action Assassin's Creed Netflix show.

Frankly, we didn't need the logo-adorned concept art to get what's being said here, but given the sheer number of times we've expected this remake to breach the waves like a whale, it's nice not to have to read between the lines or think "maybe we were wrong?" this whole time. One of the best pirate games of all time is officially returning.

The Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake is happening, yes, it is called Resynced, and no, we still don't know when this boat might finally come to shore. And given what happened to the Prince of Persia remake at the last minute, can you blame me for not getting too giddy with glee right now? Oh, and there's still the question of the Assassin's Creed 1 remake. Look, I'm not breaking out the good rum until I see that big green Play button on Steam. If it makes it to Steam, anyway. That recent free-play Anno 117 event being locked to Ubisoft Connect has me worried, too. Ubisoft loves a good curveball, in case you haven't noticed.

If you want to learn a little more about the wider Assassin's Creed franchise to tide you over until we hear of a release window, give Guesdon's blog post a read. The video doesn't divulge much at all, but the post does cover Project Hexe and Invictus, which could be "bringing co‑op back to Assassin's Creed."
