At first glance, you might assume Len's Island is all about Stardew Valley style farming, fishing, and taking it easy. While that element is certainly important, this open-world survival crafting game puts a lot more weight on its combat side. Along with exploring the sprawling archipelago, settling bases, and growing crops, you'll need to craft and enchant weapons, armor, and tools to help you overcome deadly dungeons and beefy boss fights. First launched into early access in November 2021, it's now hit version 1.0, and developer Flow Studio is celebrating with a temporary free trial and a big Steam sale discount.

Take a look through our pick of the best survival games in 2025, and you'll see that almost all of them are better in co-op. Toughing it out alongside your mates is a fundamentally satisfying experience, and so it's not a huge surprise to see that the introduction of up to eight-person multiplayer has given Len's Island a big boost. There's not even any need to convince your friends to buy it, as an ongoing free weekend lets everyone play without paying right now to celebrate the 1.0 launch.

Len's Island's gear progression and more intense combat sections bring to mind games like Diablo or even Hades, while the combination of sandbox exploration, building out a homestead, and dealing with harvest moons and enemy raids give it the vibe of a top-down Terraria or the likes of Necesse. Indeed, much like Re-Logic's indie darling, Flow has made character and world saves separate in Len's Island 1.0, allowing you to bring your favorite build into other servers if you want.

Version 1.0 overhauls the skill tree, introduces new exotic weapons and tools, adds more enemies and the final dungeon and boss fight, and of course transforms Len's Island into a co-op game with the ability to host a server for up to eight players. There's even more beyond that, however; another bow type, more Paladin armor, tablets that teach you the island's ancient language, a workbench redesign, chickens and chicken coops, and improvements to the early game progression.

Combining the Len's Island 1.0 launch, the inclusion of co-op, and the ability to try it temporarily as a free Steam game, the player count has absolutely soared, hitting a new high of 15,912. That's more than ten times its previous all-time record. Reviews are very positive, too, with 86% of players giving it the thumbs up.

While there's only one more day left on the free weekend, don't worry if you miss it; Flow Studio is offering a generous Steam sale discount knocking more than a third off the price, and there's plenty of time to take advantage of the deal.

Len's Island is free to play on Steam through Monday June 23. It's also 35% off until Thursday July 3, so expect to pay $19.49 £16.24 if you want a copy to keep. Head right here to grab it while you can and set out on your next adventure.
