New survival game from Barotrauma dev has already been wishlisted 200,000 times

With Barotrauma, creator FakeFish looked to the murky depths of the ocean as the basis for its survival horror setting. The studio's follow-up takes place on the surface of the planet, which should, in theory, offer a slightly less oppressive world to explore. Instead, Frostrail appears to be an equally desperate experience that draws on the frozen landscapes of The Long Dark and the train shelter of Metro Exodus in its take on the first-person survival genre. This mix seems to be resounding with audiences, as it's already been added to Steam wishlists a staggering 200,000 times.

Frostrail's big hook is that its players must rely on a giant train as they attempt to travel across the survival game's snow-covered landscape. As in The Long Dark, the setting's freezing temperatures are nearly as much of a threat as any other danger the setting offers, including the clawed, zombie-like monsters that make the wasteland their home.

Because of this, the player has to be careful to keep warm as they scrounge through ghost towns and subterranean vaults for resources, returning regularly to the train to avoid dying in the cold. The promise of this set-up, along with what looks to be a solid take on the survival genre staples of crafting and co-op play, has given Frostrail a lot of early attention. Most recently, the game hit the milestone of 200,000 wishlists on Steam, which is a great early sign for its upcoming launch.
