Super realistic FPS game Road to Vostok feels like single-player Tarkov

Road to Vostok has been on our radar for a while now. A survival FPS game reminiscent of Escape from Tarkov, Stalker 2, and Scum, it places a heavy emphasis on realism to offer an experience that makes players truly feel as if they're trying to survive in a harsh, post-apocalyptic landscape. This applies to its weapons and gear, but also, as a detailed new update video from its lone creator shows, the geography and culture of Finland, too.

Created by a solo developer, a former Finnish soldier who goes by 'Antii,' Road to Vostok is an ambitious project that wants to inject the apocalyptic survival game genre with a distinct sense of his nation's culture. The 'Midsummer Special' update video sees Antii playing through some of the new work that has gone into the game since we last heard news of its progress, while also describing features he's been working on.

These include flags marking map transitions, modeled on those found in Finnish forests, as well as more information on the resource costs and expected difficulty of the area the player is about to enter. There's also an in-depth fishing system, with highly detailed casting and reeling, and boating to go along with it.

Antii gets into other details, too, such as the voice acting that's now been recorded for a number of characters, including an intricately detailed cat that players can find and adopt in-game. He also explains his approach to incorporating Finnish folk music into the game through the player's cassette player, introducing a group called Junna whose dance-inflected take on folk will make up the soundtrack.
