Despite being an excellent game, Rise of the Ronin doesn't get enough recognition. Originally a PlayStation exclusive, it was doomed to live in the shadows of Ghost of Tsushima. Its arrival on PC should have been its moment to shine, but it came out a mere week before Assassin's Creed: Shadows. The timing of its releases has never been in its favor, but this deal brings it down to the lowest price yet, and I implore you to give it a chance while it's on offer.

While I adore Ghost of Tsushima (I even have a tattoo of it) and can understand how it overshadowed Rise of the Ronin, I do think that this samurai RPG is a much better experience than Assassin's Creed: Shadows. I played it last year, with its initial launch on the PS5, and quickly considered it to be one of the best RPGs at the time. After enjoying it once again on PC, it's safe to say I still love it, and its an impressive open-world game that rivals Ubisoft and Sucker Punch's own experiences.

Mixing the open nature of Ghost of Tsushima's gorgeous rendition of, well, Tsushima, and the challenging combat you'd find in the best soulslikes, Rise of the Ronin feels like the greatest parts of both worlds. As you traverse Japan, you'll find yourself getting caught up in various factions that are all vying for power, and with you at the centre of many battles, you become the difference between one side's victory and another's defeat.

It's a great action-adventure game, with solid gameplay that will see you not only meeting a fascinating cast of characters like Ryoma Sakamoto and Kogoro Katsura, but also fighting them too. Fortunately, the game gives you plenty of tools to survive this dangerous world, from the iconic katana and dual swords to bows and firearms. Fortunately, every weapon will help you defeat the enemies you'll encounter.

If you're hoping for a Japan-trotting adventure to enjoy, Rise of the Ronin is just $36.49 / £29.19 at Fanatical, an impressive 27% discount on a new PC game that released just a couple of months ago. Whether you've enjoyed the Nioh games, which were also developed by Koei Tecmo, or you love the sightseeing vistas of Ghost of Tsushima, you'll enjoy Rise of the Ronin.
