Still searching for the perfect Galentine’s party theme? We’ve got you covered. A cake-decorating party is the sweetest way to celebrate the holidays with your friends. Plus, it takes the stress off your shoulders if you’re still trying to figure out what to serve for dessert.

There are so many fun ways to throw a cake-decorating party, but we’ve compiled a few tips to make yours perfect. After this Valentine’s Day, you and your friends will want to make this a new holiday tradition.

Bake Your Cakes Ahead of Time

Make your cake party ten times easier by having your cakes prepped and ready for when your guests arrive.

Your first option is to bake your cakes at home. A lunchbox cake (aka a small, personal-sized cake) will be easier to decorate, especially if you’re hosting a large party. Don’t be shy about using box cake mix, either. The party is all about the frosting, after all, and a box mix will still taste delicious.

No time to bake? No problem. You can visit a grocery store and purchase either a variety of mini cakes or a large sheet cake. If you opt for a sheet cake, cut it into personal-sized cakes for everyone to decorate. When buying pre-made cakes at the store, look for affordable, plain options. Remove any existing decor, but leave the base layer of frosting if you want to keep it simple.

To keep things streamlined, set up everything you need to decorate your cakes in advance. Give everyone a bowl of frosting, and set out a variety of food dyes so everyone can choose their own colors. (You could also dye the frosting ahead of time, and stick with a classic pink, red, and white palette instead.)

Set down placemats, baking mats, or parchment paper to help contain any spills. Place each cake on a plate or tray.

Add a tray full of frosting supplies, including piping bags and tips. Sprinkles, heart-shaped candies, and chocolates are a few other classic Valentine's toppings that you might want to include for your guests.

Themes

The coquette aesthetic inspired the lunchbox cake trend, so it makes sense to celebrate Galentine's Day with a dash of coquette style. Rather than traditional sprinkles, try using pearl sprinkles instead. Add decorative bows to the sides of your cake, or try making soft-hued ruffles with your piping tip.

A 'garden girl' cake decorating party is another trendy theme your friends will adore. Lean into using edible flowers as cake toppers. Extras like meringue mushrooms and sprigs of edible greenery make this theme on point.
