It's Official: At Home Filed for Bankruptcy—See if Your Store Is Closing

The news broke in early June that At Home was considering filing for bankruptcy, and now, just two weeks later, the brand has officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. This isn’t the end of the chain just yet, though. At Home officially stated the brand had come to terms with its lenders to resolve its $2 billion debt. 

Although 26 stores have announced their closures, At Home still operates approximately 260 stores across the U.S.; whether At Home chooses to close more stores in the future remains uncertain.

What Does This Bankruptcy Mean for At Home?

At Home has entered into a Restructuring Support Agreement with lenders, meaning they are working to erase substantial debt. In doing so, the home company will also receive a large sum as support through their restructuring process and future growth—there's hope At Home can turn things around.

“Upon emergence from the prearranged restructuring process, At Home will move forward with new owners and a meaningfully strengthened balance sheet," says At Home CEO Brad Weston. "Importantly, this process will also further equip us with opportunities to invest in our strategic initiatives and to continue fortifying our business for the long term. As we work through this process, our stores and the teams that support them remain customer-focused and committed to serving and inspiring customers, enabling them to Design Their Life AT HOME."

Once At Home comes out of bankruptcy, the brand will likely be run by the lenders, so the beloved hub can start fresh. What does this mean for shoppers? Nothing is changing, besides the few (and hopefully only) stores closing; you can still browse the products you love online and in person.
