A dip party might just be the easiest way to set up for the Big Game—each guest you invite will bring one of their favorite dips to share, and you’ll provide the dippers. If your guests want to spend time whipping up homemade dips in their kitchens, they can, and if they’d rather just grab something from the store to bring. Here's everything you need to know ahead of your dip party, plus recipe inspiration.

How to Prepare for a Dip Party

To keep things organized, consider creating a sign-up sheet for everyone to look at before they make their dip. You can ask people to bring specific items—like guacamole or French onion dip—or have them write down what they’re bringing so there aren’t any duplicates.

It’s good to have an idea of what dips your guests will bring so you can prepare different types of chips ahead of time. Alternatively, you can ask your guests to bring chips with their dip.

Setting Up

Since guests will be bringing a majority of the food, set up a grazing area and a drinks station before they arrive. A large table with empty serving dishes for store-bought dips and chips will allow guests to set up their dips as soon as they enter. Prepare extra serving utensils in advance, and stock the end of your table with hosting essentials such as napkins and plates.

Sips

Low-stress drinks are always a good option. Consider an ice bucket full of your favorite individually bottled drinks for everyone to pick from. Batch cocktails are another option you can make ahead of time, before everyone arrives; keep your pitcher cocktail in the fridge until the party starts, then set it out and add ice.

Chips and Dip Inspiration

Want to set your guests up with a little inspiration? Add a few dip suggestions to your party invite. You can also make one or two of these dips yourself if you want to have extra variety at your potluck.

One of America’s favorite Super Bowl snacks is tortilla chips and salsa (with guac, of course), so it’s imperative that you have both at your dip party. If your guests are already bringing these items, consider adding a few serving bowls of toppings such as sour cream, jalapeños, or lime slices. Artichoke dip is always a favorite; queso is another warm and comforting classic.

You can also turn your favorite Super Bowl flavors into dips. Instead of Buffalo sauce on wings, you can make a Buffalo chicken-inspired dip. Mix together jalapeños, cream cheese, and cheddar for a jalapeño popper-inspired dip.

Dessert Dips

Don’t forget to mix things up with a sweet dip, too. A melted chocolate dip is always a favorite; cream cheese, caramel, and fruit dips are other popular dessert options. To dip, try mini brownies, cookies, s’mores, and fresh fruit.
